gears and lockers

i drive a 94 z71 reg cab 8ft box(GM 10 Bolt) and i was looking into swaping out my diff gears for some 4:10 gears.....also i was looking at a quic lock locker.....what kind of job am i getting myself into and what kind of tools are recommended.....please let me know how difficult this will be...and also correct me f im wrong if i switch the rear gearing the front has to be done as well......... i will appriciate all replies thanx and please help

Yes the gears on both have to be done together. If not, when you go in 4x4, your front wheels will be moving at a different speed than your rear, not good. Having worked on rears before, I can tell you that it is better to have a pro do the job. The endplay needs to be measured as well as other things to be checked and adjusted during the reassembly. If you insist on doing the job yourself, there are a lot of books that can help you in the venture. I, again suggest a pro do the job.
