Im lookin to buy a Duramax tomorrow, a guy hit me up, (i havent even got it yet), he said that his 2003 Cummins would eat me up! Ofcouse we mouthed off and i said if i get it, we are on. WILL I WIN?, Im planning to put edge or hypertech on it, its a 2003 4x4 LB7 E-cab LS Chevy, he has a 2003 Dodge 4x4 Crew.

Don't really know first hand but from what I have heard about the Cummins I would leave my billfold home. I love GM trucks and always will. I have owned F**d in my younger days when I was young, dumb and full of you know what. But that was because I could never afford the best. I have owned GM trucks now for about 15 years and would rather walk than drive the other guys trucks. But I hear that Cummins is a real work horse.

Let us know what happens GOOD LUCK. Make me want to trade my 8100 for a Duramax.

Is he stock? Is he planning to race you while you're stock? This would be nice to know.

The Duramax is the easiest diesel to modify and it also provides some of the most impressive results with the least amount of money spent. Some folks have been able to get into the 11's with just a few power boxes on a stock turbo, injectors, etc. The only real big cost was an Allison upgrade from Suncoast

$ for $, you'll get more HP out of your DMAX than he can get out of the NEW Cummins. By the way, don't bother with the Hypertech...go for the Juice.

Its close! I own an 03 Dmax crew(LB7) and my friend owns that exact Dodge. We ran em. He got me a little out of the hole but after the turbo spooled up I passed him up and stayed about a truck length ahead of him until we were maintaining the same speed(about 92 mph). We were both bone stock. The Dodge seems a little more responsive but the Dmax has a longer, steadier torque curve so it doesn't hit its "dead spot" as fast. I would not bet either way. They are both powerful(not fast) motors and it could go either way. Some trucks just run better than others too, even the same brands. I have got a friend that talks the same trash exept he drives a stroker 6.0 and I am sure he is a little quicker. After I get the "Juice" he can mod all he wants and never take a Dmax. Once you add-on to the Dmax you will be champ. It is definately built to handle more fuel and air than the other two.

THe cummins is stock, he said he ordered a superchips , but it hadent come in yet, if i buy the dmax, it will be a couple of week before i get my edge, i dont think he going to get the superchips, hes tired of waiting. He said he was at the horse show in the mountains this weekend, he and his buddy raced, ofcoruse his buddy had a Dmax and he said the flew by him, and the Duramax was to the floor. :D

My brother has a Cummins (04), feels like it has a good amount of torque but when they added a bit of boost and tune to get that 600 ftLb of torque, it doesn't have the mileage (18) a friend of mine gets with his 03 (21). I doubt they have much more room to go.

A friend with a D-max (at my work) has a predator (I hadn't seen), says it'll just fly up a grade towing his 5th wheel. And with not that much needed boost.

I see the Doged's struggling up grades usually.

But not the F**D's, they seem to do quite well.

Wasn't there a test a year or two ago comparing the Diesels? I remember Doged didn't do so good...

I can't comment on the '03 but I do know that I ate an '02 Cummins/Auto with my wife's crew cab '02 Duramax/Allison. This show wan't even close.

Even still I'd probably give the edge in an 04-05 D/A over the Dodge configured the same. That Cummins is a helluva engine and I was microseconds away from having one over my '04 6.0 (until I realized that I didn't need 2 diesel trucks) but even after driving it, my wife's felt stronger stock for stock.

Once he starts modding it, he'll destroy you because those Cummins are flat out nasty when opened up. Not taking anything away from the Duramax but I've seen streetable Cummins that will run with formidable cars with not much effort.

if theyre stock make sure you launch the dmax right and build up a whole lotta pressure off the start, i heard a lotta bad things about the 2003 cummins vs the 2004 cummins, sounds like they made a whole lotta changes though

Ford and Chevy are both beating the cummings stock in autos right now. The big thing is the dodge has the narrowest rpm range and only a four speed trans while the others are using five speeds. That's probably hurting them the most.

Alot of truth to this statement, however, you will win if this guy is only adding a Superchip handheld tune to the Cummins. As far as I can recall, Superchips offers a 65HP tune compared to the variety of higher HP tunes Edge offers. Just make sure you have a pyrometer installed so you don't damage your turbo, and launch that Duramax in 4WD. Good luck. :D

The Guy sold the D-Max right out from under me, looking at new now

Also where can i get the pyrometer at, also, how high could i go on the level from edge?

I may be mistaken, but I think Edge only offers the Juice w/ Attitude for the LLY. It has 5 settings ranging from 30 - 120HP. It monitors and displays your egt's, boost, can adjust for tire size, etc. It sells for about $700

You have other options for the older LB7:

Juice module only: 40-90 HP $500 (this is what I have)

Hot Juice Module only: 40-125HP $810

Juice w/ Attitude: 40-125HP with monitor $675

The Allison can handle about an extra 125HP before it starts limping.

Run your friend with the new Juice/Attitude with it set on 120. His jaw will drop at the amount of black smoke you dump out of the back of your truck...because that's all he'll see when you blow past him. :loser: In addition, if you buy a new Duramax, please let it break in before you start putting the Juice to it.

The Juice w/ Attitude is available for the LB7. I was just in my friend's yesterday. An 03 SB7, Juice w/ Attitude stage 5, burning rubber! I own an LB7 and it's going in next month.
