Blank Cover in Overhead Console?

Does anyone know what the blank cover (at front, angled down)is for on the large overhead console of a 1999 Silverado? It has to be used for something in the Yukon, Escalade, Denali, etc. Everyone gets in my truck and asks why it is blank. I see that someone in the forum mounted their XM radio there. It would be nice to make use of it and retrofit whatever is supposed to be there in.

Some trucks have the same console but with a little half plate instead of the full one. It looks much better if there is nothing mounted there. A XM display won't fit in the half plate version though.

Yup an XM Commander fits in that spor really nice. I have also seen people use it for auxillary switches or guages.

The console will fit in a regular cab, but there is nothing to mount it to from the factory. You have to rig up something to hold it up.

If you don't have rear aux. cooling it makes a neat place to put the red flashing light when the alarm is armed.

Speaking of this piece. Does anyone have one that they are not needing. Like SDTAHOE I had my XM up there but decided to move it to the casette area. Now I find out that GM doesnt sell just that piece, they want to sell me an entire new overhead console (for like $350). I would be willing to pay a reasonable price to someone that wanted to (or had one) to sell.

Yep,thats the part number your looking for,lists for around 10 bucks,alot better than $350 for the whole console

There's a shop down the road from the house that sells used ones for about $75. That's the entire (full length) overhead console.

That XM receiver fits in there real nice. I have the mini-console with the pocket and maplights that it came with from the factory. That full length console is very nice though, something to poder for the future...gonna have to start adding chapters to my wish list!

I'd like to put one in my 03 SC also, does anyone know if there is enough room behind that cover to put a radar detector there? I have my Valentine One hardwired in the little console now.
