can a speaker pop if...

im trying to isolate a "popping" sound (like an electric crackle) coming from behind the driver seat in my 2002 z-71 regular cab...

 

i guess this is a general question...if a radio/cd player is off in a vehicle, can a blown speaker still make "popping" sounds?

 

it doesnt sound like its blown because sound still comes out of it, but it sure sounds like a speaker popping...

If the head unit is off, there's no signal going to the speaker, so I don't see how it could pop. Any more info on the popping noise? How often do you notice it, does it get worse on bumpier roads, etc?

thats what i thought as well...it may be a result of the colder weather...it seems to make this noise at random times, and seems like the noise is aimed at my left ear....(i think) it is very annoying...

 

i do have a Pioneer head unit, but have stock speakers....i guess i was looking for a reason to upgrade...

Do you have a Nextel phone/ 2 way radio ?

 

A Nextel will cause this from time to time.

It doesn't have to be his phone, and it doesn't have to be a Nextel. A lot of phones will cause a static sound to come out of speaker wires.

 

My buddy has a Sprint phone, and it causes a crackle in the speakers of my garage stereo every time he is using his phone within 40 feet of it.

no, i dont have a Nextel...and i make every attempt to not drive and talk at the same time...(it cant possibly be that important)...

 

and of course, the mysterious popping noise has gone away - at least for now...i didnt do anything different, it just doesnt make that sound anymore...
