My '03 is the same way: Spongy when others I have driven are firm. I'm hoping that bleeding the brake lines will solve the problem, but I haven't had time yet..

Anyone else experience this?

sorry can't help either

I've complained about my soft brakes, they will go to the floor, (03 Silv ext 4X4) from the begining. The dealer told me, thats the way they are designed. I have driven 04's and their brakes seem great compared to mine. My truck will stop ok it's just that you have to press the pedal down further and I think the abs kicks in when not needed.

My '03 Z71 was an early production run and probably inherited the '02 brakes. They were spongy, go-to-the-floor and not stop, and the rotors/pads were replaced by the dealer under warranty. To top it off, I am an easy braker.

Finally, after another offer to replace rotors for free by the dealer, I decided to just surrender and replaced all four rotors with PowerSlots and installed locally-available Performance Friction brake pads.

No more spongy pedal, easy feel on the foot, and solid stopping. Haven't replaced the brake fluid yet. That was going to be my next step---a flush. But, the improvement has been so radical I have elected to delay that.

My 99 has always had a pretty decent brake feel. The rotors have rusted out twice, but still always felt pretty good. By the time that this past spring rolled around, the parking brake shoe scraping was getting pretty loud, and the rotors were extremely rusted and the brakes were starting to fade and pulsate. I did alot of forum lurking, (that's when I found this great place and joined the best forum ever!), and checked out what people had to say about stuff they've used. After looking at factory replacements, SSBC, Performance Friction pads, Powerstop rotors, Powerslot rotors, Hawk Pads, EBC pads, Baer equipment, Brembo stuff, pretty much everything that fit my truck from ceramic to full out race pads, I finally decided to go with Praise Dyno.

Praise Dyno makes performance oriented stuff that's cryogenically treated, but not full out race equipment that are noisy and dusty as hell. I got front and rear pads and slotted rotors, and ceramic parking brake shoes shipped to my door for less than $750...less than the dealer wanted for OEM replacements. Now my truck really stops! No noise, and very little dust...(I keep my truck pretty clean so my wheels never really have a chance to get dirty anyway). The customer service was excellent too...the gentleman took the time to answer all of my questions on the phone and was very pleasant. Their website is www.praisedynobrake.com.

I probably sound like a broken record with all of my recommendations, but when I find something good that works for me that I'm happy with, I love to let people know about it. If I have a bad experience with something, I like to share that information also to try and help others avoid having to go through some of my misfortune. That's what it's all about! :ughdance:
