Anyway, just struck me yesterday that no GM car/lt truck that I know of will have the venerable 5.7L / 350 cu pushrod V-8 under the hood.:flag::banghead::smash:

Does anybody know how many consecutive years GM has had a product with this engine powering it (be it carbed or injected)? Just curious and I know some of you dudes will have a quick answer for this one.

The new C6 Corvette along with the SSR and GTO for '05 Have the 6-liter LS2 Gen III V8

There hasn't been a 350 since 98 I believe. The 98 trucks were the last to have 350's. The ls1 that came out in 97 in the vette and was later put in f-bods and is now in the 04 GTO is a 346. So there won't be a 346 anymore.

No, the 350's were in the old-body-style trucks up to 2000. And the C5 Corvettes were 350's up to this year. So Wingnut you were not off!

The current gen SBC V8 in 5.7L trim, I.E. the LS1, is 346 cubic inches.

I thought the old school 5.7's last production year was 2000 and was sold in commercial/fleet vehicles.

It couldn't meet ever stringent emissions and C.A.F.E. requirements so that's why it's been phased out.

5.7L has a few cubic inch range, so that's where the confusion comes in. But there is a nearly 4 C.I.D difference.

Actually, you’re all wrong…

The 350 5.7L small block that was introduced in 1969 (which was based in the 1954 265 small block architecture) was last used in a GM vehicle in the 2002 Chevrolet Express Van and GMC Savana. The engine architecture went through a few updates but still the same basic engine as the 1954 265.

Workhorse Custom Chassis (Step-Van strip chassis: such as Frito-Lay trucks, USPS trucks, etc) continued to produce chassis with the 350 through September 2003. The last chassis rolled of the assembly line with a 350 on September 24, 2003 and exported to a Saudi Arabian company with a Grumman-Olson body on it…along with 9 others built the same day.

To my knowledge the Romulus, MI plant where the US version of the 350 was made has been fully converted over to the Gen III. The Mexican, Australian and Brazilian plants have also been closed or converted as well. Somewhere, but not sure where, still builds brand new 350's but only for service parts....not production vehicles.

The only thing I was wrong on was the last year they were sold. I know we sold them in fleet/commercial in 2000, but that's when I left so I didn't know if they still soldiered on into '01.

The previous generation SBC that Larry is talking about shares nothing with the current generation SBC other than the fact that it has 8 cylinders and indentical bore centerlines. Otherwise, it was a clean sheet design in the early to mid 90's that was introduced in 97 in the Vette then '98 in the F-Body's and '99 as a cast iron version in the trucks with varying displacement sizes.

The previous gen SBC was a genuine 5.7L, 350 cubic inch V8. The LS1/6 series motor is ALSO 5.7L but a smaller 5.7L. It displaces 346 cubic inches.

The range for 5.7 goes from 345 - 350 cubes roughly
