Anybody have the GM step bars on there HD? I am having them put on my new HD as part of the commercial rebate I am getting. I was wondering how the quality is compared to others. I have westins on the truck I am trading and was pleased with them.

I've got them on my truck. I wished I'd ordered them on the truck instead of putting them on later, although the dealership Parts Manager made me a heck of a deal on them. The thing I like the best about them is they have a single step pad for both doors (I have a crew cab) as opposed to 2 individual steps on each bar. I think the individual steps on a bar like the Westins are too short. Personally I think you made a good choice to go with the GM steps.

Funny you should ask...I installed them this morning on my new 2004 Chevy 3500 Crew LD DRW...took me less than an hour to install them and they are very nice. I've installed Westins and Go Rhino, and found the GM bars to be of as good if not better quality. I got them for a steal yesterday at the local dealership for $375 thus I ran out the door with them and installed them this morning. Great quality, no drilling, bolted on nice and sturdy...and they hold my 240 pound frame without so much as a flex.

I highly recommend them!!

What kind of warranty does the GM bars have?? Also what kind of construction are they? Stainless??. I'm looking at getting the Wesin's platinium chromed stainless ones as they are supposed to handle the crappy weather we have here in WI w/o a problem

The westin's I have on the truck I am trading in will be 3 yrs. old. IThey are the stainless ones with the black powdercoat on them. I noticed that the paint is starting to peel off the rear of the bars where all the winter crap hits. I'm not sure what kind of warranty the Westin's have as I am trading the truck in. Never asked about the GM warranty. I'm getting the bars with the $500 commercial rebate so it is like a freebie. They are also stainless with the black powder coating.

Any GM Accessory installed by a GM dealer while the vehicle is stiil under the factory 3/36 warranty is warrantied for the remainder of the factory warranty or 12 months/12,000 miles, whichever is greater. Accessories bought over the counter or customer installed carry a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty, same as any other part.

For example, if you have the dealer install the accessory at the original purchase you will have them warrantied until 3 yrs/ 36K. If the accessory is installed at 30K, that accessory would be warrantied for 12 months or 12,000 miles (up to 42K)after the purchase of the accessory. The Dealer installed catch is a GM policy, not something the dealers add.

Is there a less expensive alternative than the dealer to buy these bars?

Does anyone know the GM part number for the step bars for the Crew Cab (2005)?

Thanks, DEWFPO

Yep, picked up a set on Friday and the Parts Manager told me they fit the 2004 and 2005 model.

Chrome tubulars are part number 12498956 (I paid $375 for these)

Black tubulars are part number 12498957 (I don't know the price on these)

I got the cheaper price by looking the parts manager in the eye and asking him if I could get a better price. I told him I had just bought a truck from his dealer five days earlier and that I needed a set of tubulars. I explained (nicely) that I could purchase them from him or run down the street and get a set of aftermarket but would prefer to keep my money with GM. He said give him a minute and did some number crunching on the computer. He looked up and asked how $375 sounded...I whipped out the cash quick and ran out the door. Perhaps negotiate a little...I never pay retail on anything as I'll ask for a discount - AAA, poor boy, fat guy, deep in debt fella, worst looking, whatever discount I can qualify for and it works every time. I'm a purchasing manager for my company and do the same dealing in my personal life that I do at work - and it works everytime.

Just be nice, be humble, be firm and ask...most folks are too timid to ask for a discount or they are too abrasive and get an immediate NO.

The GM bars are Stainless Steel for both the chrome plated and black painted steps.

I have these on my Sierra. Very good quality! And as mentioned, I like the single black step pad.
