Weekend Mods/Tool Box question

With the money I recieved from selling my beloved 1995 Crown Vic Police Interceptor, I have started fixing up my truck. Yesterday I went down to the local line-x dealer and had them do their magic and I must say, I am VERY VERY impressed, no longer will the bed be an eye sore because of all the scratches! It looks beautiful! Next stop was to the Brakes Plus shop where they re-surfaced the rotors and roughed up the brake bads a bit as well as rotated the tires and did a full synthetic oil change. Next weekend its going in for front & rear diff service, as well as tranny flush/filter, power steering flush, coolant flush and new thermostat, and transfer case service. I will also pick me up a new set of spark plug wires and replace the plugs myself. Am I missing anything???? Brake fluid was done last year and still looks good according to brakes plus, fuel filter won't be due till summertime....

 

I will also be getting me a tool box to put into the back of my truck. Anyone have any input onto which brands are the best/what I should look for and avoid?

Ryan, sounds like you got it covered pretty well. As for as tool boxes, I have a Weathergaurd box and I love it. The same box has been in three different Z71's I have owned over the last 12 years. Weathergaurd is definately one of the best, if not the best, box you will find. It has been completely waterproof, and the lid hinges and locking mechanism flawless. It's a matter of preference, whether you want a box that mounts over the side rails, or inside the bed only. Mine is inside the bed, and is flush with the side rails. You may pay a little more, but this has been a real nice box. MMM

Ryan, I would strongly encourage you to do all of that maintenence you've listed yourself. They are very easy to do and you will save a TON of money, plus you can use all synthetic fluids.

 

As far as tool boxes, I've used nothing but United Welding Services (UWS). They are extremely durable, weatherproof, and great looking. Here is thier link so you can browse thier site a little bit:

Do not forget the dist. cap and rotor button. Also, from expirence, do not buy a cheap box. The cheap ones will break around the latches. I have seen several with this problem, that is why they end up with locks hanging off the side. Find a truck store (caps, liners etc.) and get a good one (about $300).

Weatherguard.

 

1. Single chest type lid instead of gull wing lids. This enables you to stow longer items.

 

2.NO clear coat aluminum...eventually if will get cloudy.

I prefer powdercoating...I have black...goes with any body color. Still shiney after four

years of gross road grime and dog jumping up on top of lid.

 

3.Buy the deepest one you can tolerate..ie. how much clearance do you need between the bottom of the toolbox and your bed.

 

4. If you EVER have thought about getting a shell/topper/canopy. you might consider the chest type toolbox.

 

5. Buy a couple cans of 3M spray adhesive and about 6 linear feet of indoor/outdoor carpet..

Line the walls and floor with the carpet before you mount the boxl. Trust me you'll never regrett it if you install it properly, take your time.

Give Ranch Hand a try. They are expensive...but boy are they worth it. Hard to beat RH for customer service and reliability as well.
