Rattle still not fixed

Recommended Posts

Last night I got on her a little bit and that wonderful rattle is still there. At least it isn't constant, but then again it will probably progress. :ughdance: I'm so tired of dealerships.

Oh no...The Lisa Chronicles - Part II. At least this doesn't sound like as big of an issue as the last truck. You are definitely going straight to heaven...(your heaven is a place where Chevy trucks never rattle and there's no such thing as "dealerships") :ughdance:

I'm looking forward to when your truck is fixed and your threads start off with "Well, I just installed the new whatever today and it looks and fits great!!! Here's some pics:" :ughdance:

Good luck Lisa, I hope this gets fixed within 3 attempts at least!!

budhayes, how the heck are you???

I'm with ya on that! Just tired of spending so much time at the dealership. I have to go back anyways for the trim piece, just didn't want to have to do it so soon.

Hopefully in heaven I'll have wings and won't have to worry about vehicle issues anymore, just feathers......... :ughdance:

Hey Mike,

I seriously thought it was the exhaust, but my work order said they repositioned the fuel lines, said there was a TSB on it. He made a remark on the phone that the exhaust was bottoming out on the frame. The noise I hear sounds like it is coming from behind the rear passenger side, behind the seat. Just sounds like a heat shield rattle. I don't know, wish I would have taken mechanics in high school. You'd think that dealership would get it right the first time considering how bad they screwed up with my 02.

Don't know if you want to do it, but you could craw under and check the heat shield. I have had a lot of these fail on me over the years, so now I just replace them early with a flowmaster. Never worry about the rattle! Other than that, you could have the exhaust mounts checked, one of the rubbers could be bad. After what you went through with the last truck, I hope this is a pleasure to deal with!

Well maybe I will take a peek under there. I just have to wait for the garage to dry up a bit, we've had snow off and on, about 3 inches now. Does flowmaster give you a nice rumble......kinda like the '70's mopars? I would love to have a rumble like that.

Thanks for your help Mike, I appreciate it.

Lisa,

Where again is the rattle?

Hey Billy, I am working in a little town not far from you fpr the next few weeks.

Where are you working Mike? Close to River Edge?

Lisa...To answer your question...I've been good! (Gotta be good at Christmas time!) And when you go to heaven, I'm sure you'll have wings...you'll be able to see the roof of my perfect (without a ding or scratch), shiny(no paint chips), fast(Monster GENIII style engine..runs 8's in the quarter), loud(the mortals on Earth will hear it...they'll call it thunder) truck! (that's my version of heaven!) :troll: Aaahh, the nectar of the gods!

Lisa,

I like the Flowmaster, I am not sure if I have the 40 or 50 series, but I opted for the quieter one. It gives me a great low rumble, I have had a lot of comments on the great sound. It is not to loud, not too soft. Just right. I would not give it up for anything!

Guy who lives across the street has a 2004 2wd 1500 with 7K miles, and lots of strange noises from the front. He used to be a dealership mechanic, and can't find the problem himself. Dealer can't either. Has to be frustrating.....

Budhayes :troll: you are sooo funny. Just what size motor is in this GenIII? Is it fueled by the nectar of the Gods  I can't wait to see it! Just make sure no birds fly overhead.

Mike is it dual exhaust or single? Did your mileage improve? Is that what they call catback? I don't want to void my warranty........especially with my luck. What would be a good price to pay to have this done?

Bill thanks for the info, mine is definitely in the back, right rear. It's progressing too, it's like sheet metal vibrating.

I just want a vehicle that runs with no problems for a change. I even had them change my oil just for the fact it's a new engine. Let's hope I don't sign up for another book :chevy:

Have a great night guys :chevy:

Hey Lisak  I think mcreyaufmiller is just talking about a muffler. It's my understanding that the stock mufflers flow pretty good. you will see a slight increase in mpg mostly noise is what you get. I would say a max of 10% increase with the best system. 10% of 16ish isn't much for the price of a full cat back system. A flowmaster or magnaflow or similar installed in place of your stocker would not void warranty Be careful what you choose. cab drone can drive you crazy. Flowmasters hav been known to be on the loud side. I have a set of flowmasters. But it's comparing apples tooranges cause my flowmasters are on my hot rod with a exhaust total length of 4ft including mufflers. IT's JUST LOUD. :chevy: I have read that the 05 mufflers rattled. :troll:

So has the front end grown on you yet?

Posted

Hi Facn8me, how the heck have you been?? Well if you read 05 mufflers rattle, than I want a new muffler.......one that rumbles........I would assume they would just put the same old thing on there, if they even replaced it. You can bet I'll be back and want it fixed right. Where did you read it do you remember?

I asked the guy when I took it in how much they would charge...for the heck of it...to yank the moldings off. 1) he thought I was crazy cause that's the way it was designed 2) I'll get door dings 3) it could mess up the paint job.....only on a certain angle. After I told him what I thought of the molding :chevy: he said it would be around $80.00. He did suggest I take a heat gun to it, but I should remember the resale value..........I told him I wasn't planning on selling unless I start having problems like the other one..........shuts em every time. I just have to mention the 02 and you get silence :chevy:

No, I haven't gotten used to the front end, I always go around back...........it'll take time to grow on me. I'm sure I will accept sooner or later, maybe after I wash a few times in the summer and get those ugly moldings off, YUCK

So is your truck your hotrod or do you have something else?

Good to hear from you facn8me :troll:

Lisak,

Doin good thanks for asking. I thought a couple of people on here were complaining about the mufflers rattleing. But alas maybe i just dreamed it  .

$80.00 FOR MOULDING REMOVAL!!!!!!!! :bs: DAMM!!!!!!! It'll be fine till this summer then pull that stuff off yourself.

Also turn that BOSE system up :chevy: you'll never hear the rattle :smash:

patience grasshopper. The front end will grow on you.
