REPLACING REAR SPEAKERS

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 95 Suburban and Im looking at replacing the factory speakers in the rear, not the rear passenger door speakers but the speakers by the "barn doors". The only problem is that they are 4x10s and I would like to step up to a bigger size speaker and mount the tweeters on the slope in front of the speakers. Does anyone know the biggest size that will fit?

Thanks

depends on how much modifying you're willing to do.  you should be able to fit a 5 1/4 in there without too much trouble.  and bigger if you're brave with a sawz-all

Yeah I think Im gonna get brave back there, I have to replace the rear headliner because of water damage, so the area will be open to "adjustments".

If I do do this Ill post back here and let everyone know how it all went.

Guys...

If he's talking about 4x10s, chances are they are located in the same place mine are. In the ceiling.

And trust me, 8 inchers aren't going to fit without a lot of fabrication.

And there isn't anything to be using a sawzall on...Unless you're talking about cutting a hole in the roof.

Back on topic...you might be able to fit a 5 1/4" midrange in there, or fab up some brackets and put some 4x6 plates.

Crutchfield offers adapter plates to convert to 6x9's. Don't know how they look though.

Yeah I was taking a look at the mounting area a little closer and also realized there wasnt as much room as I thouht to put a bigger speaker in. I just ordered the Kenwoods and will live with those for a while.

The Kenwoods turned out to work fine. Being up front in the drivers seat you really dont notice them but I sat in the back row and the improvement over the non-working rear speakers is huge.
