Has anyone ever painted......

the black matte plastic bumper cover on a 2004 HD? I know it probably won't come out as smooth as the normal painted finish but I would love to have it color matched. Possibly the lower valence too.

Will the paint job last?

Yes they can be painted. However they are made from an oily type plastic, TPO I believe. Special prep & products are required. As far as will it last? The front takes alot of abuse but it should hold up well if done correctly.

I had mine done while it was in the shop fixing my backed into door. The paint is now 1 and half years old and 25000 miles and it still looks fine and dfoesn't have any chips. I took it to a local body shop and they said it couldn't be painted ( I think it was more like they didn't want to deal with it) the Body shop that fixed my door did the bumper cover and grill for 160 bucks. Looks way better I get complements from other HD guys that still have the black.

The body shop owner wasn't to happy with it when I went into pick it up because of the ripple effect with the rough plastic, I don't even notice it. Washed and waxed I don't think you can even tell it looks so much better than the black...what were they thinking?
