JUST WANTED TO EXPRESS MY ENJOYMENT OF OWNING A 'BRAND SPANK NEW 2002 AV... Z66. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MY LIST OF TRUCKS I CONSIDERED WHEN SHOPPING FOR MY RIG. I WAS CLOSE TO GETTING A 1500HD BUT HAD TROUBLE LOCATING THE EXACT SPECS. TO MY BENEFIT I DECIDED TO LOOK AT THE AVALANCHE THE OTHER DAY WHILE AT THE DEALER, I TEST DROVE AND GAVE IT A GOOD LOOKING OVER AND I WAS BLOWN AWAY.... IT WAS HERE ALL ALONG BUT THOUGHT IT WASN'T WORTH THE INVESTIGATION. THE DEALER SLAPPED ME ACROSS THE FACE WITH AN OFFER OF $5000. BELOW THE AV OF MY CHOICE, COINCIDENCE OR A MOVE OF GOD. I AM WHERE I SHOULD BE WITH THE AVALANCHE

You sound just like me. I was also looking for a 01 1500 HD crew cab a couple of months ago. I could not find the one I was looking for so I said what the hell I will test drive the Av. When I was done I took a real good look at all the details and was blowen away with all the stuff that come standard with the Av. Everything that I wanted on the HD the Av was standard on. The only thing short was the 6.0 engine and the 4L80E tranny. I looked at the towing specs and that was enough for what I do. Plus the gas mileage was a lot better on the 5.3. I use it more for driving in the city than for towing.

Good choice

I think if more people would just do a test drive they would like the truck more!! I know I did.

I had went to look for a crew cab hd1500 wwhen I saw and test drove the Av. Just wanted the full-size back seat. I was concerned about the fuel mileage of the 6.oL in the HD. Sounds like the Av is cutting in on the HD sales. I bet it is cutting in on the Supercrew Ford worse!

Same here, had the HD came with 5.3, it would've been a very tough choice.

I just wanted to have the four full doors for the ease of use. The HD Silverado I haven`t seen enough of to make an opinion on. My 2000 Silverado only had 3 doors and was getting harder for the 15 yr old to get in and out. Besides I just love the Avs look. It is different and not everyone has one yet. I have only got 130 miles so far but I am sure there will be several more added.

I can relate to EDZ71, I was lucky enough to buy my Av about 6 weeks before my 6'2" sixteen year old son moved in with us.  Uh oh, he's starting to talk about getting a license and driving it.  NOT!  I'll need to find him something big and underpowered.

Greg:

My daughter turned 16 in October.  I have a 2001 SLE ext cab that I really like.  Ergo, I bought her a 2001 Sonoma.

(4 cylinder, 5 speed, reg cab, with air & CD).

OK  so people say: "you stupid fellow turn a 16 year old girl loose in a new car?"

The truck cost me exactly $10,700 tax title & all. (I did use a gas tank settlement cert and a couple of other incentives).

It's 5 speed so she HAS to learn to drive a stick. She's already quite able.

It's 4 cylinder so no major burnout probs or drag racing.

It's reg cab...limits passengers...(No Passengers in Bed by order of::::(

Now, think about it.  How much do you have to pay for a quality USED car these days?   I figure that you're pretty much buying trouble if you spend less than 6 or 7 grand.  so what the heck...why not have a good warranty to boot?

PS:  You'd have never thought she'd have wanted a truck.  But when I rolled it up in the driveway on her birthday...you'd have thought differently!

Hmm, thanks for the idea CapnDean.  I'll have to check what I can get on GMS/GMO pricing.  I was originally thinking of a Prizm, but I'm not crazy about the size.  This sounds much better.
