JL Audio Tweeters Kick Butt!

Replaced my Blose tweeters in the pillars this morning. If you have not done it, GET ER DONE! It's like buying new cd's. Just for kicks I hooked up the left one first and played a CD with the old one still installed on the right. The difference made me laugh out loud it was so bad. Easy and quick boost for your your tired ass Bose "Premium" sound system. What a joke.

If you don't mind me asking. How much did you have in the replacement speakers?

I was around $120.00 I bought them last month and don't remember, bought some other stuff at the same time, could have been a little more.

The Tweeters are JL Audio Evolution XR 100- CT . They have a high pass filter included that is super easy to wire. The whole process is easy, just need a sharp knife to do some very minor opening up of the fascia.

Personaly i think jl is overrated but they are a VERY good brand but once again if your going to be orginal dont get it. get a brand that noone has. but it depends if your going to be showing it off like i am

Did you just wire them in like the stock tweeters using the bose amp to push them? So no other amp needed and it made a really big difference? If so, that's a sweet upgrade.

I like the midrange in the bose system and the little sub is not bad, but not alot of really crisp highs to speak of.

Do you think that the factory non Bose head unit has enough power for these tweeters and filter? I've been tossing around the idea of changing my tweeters for a while, but I want to retain the factory head unit. I've been told that anything that requires it's own crossover is gonna need more than my head unit can put out. If so, any suggestions?

I heard the same warnings about the power issue from a number of sources but kept reading where guys were making the change and were happy with it, so I just made sure I got high efficency speakers that don't need massive power. I figured I would try and and if it sounded like crap I would put the old stuff back in and forget about it.

Forunately it sounded great. Looking at the linear bar display on the HU, I would guess that maybe I now turn the volume up a little more, but could be that I just like the new sound so much more I am listening to it louder instead of ignoring the dull tunes it put out before !
