I have a new remote to be programmed for my 96 Yukon and am trying to avoid dealer charges. Anyone have the proper procedure and know the "equipment" needed to get 'er done or am I better off going to the dealer? Any info welcome thanks!

I also need a reprogram. Someone left a set of keys at my office, I figured they'd be back, but it's been a couple of months. There is a remote just like the one for my 04 Silverado that is for driver #2. Can this remote be programmed without going in to the computer?

ope this will help, I got this off this fourm not sure where but do a search,

Transmitter Programming

Start with the ignition OFF, hold down the power unlock button on the door panel. Turn ignition key ON, OFF, ON, OFF. Release power unlock button on the door panel. The locks will cycle once.

Hold down the keyless entry transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons for 15 seconds. The locks will again cycle once.

Repeat step #2 for each additional keyless entry transmitter.

Turn the ignition on to exit the keyless entry transmitter programming mode. Programming is now complete.

Hmm....My father in law just bought on 05 Z-71 Tahoe and the Trasmitters work - but they dont differentiate between Driver 1 and Driver 2. Also the buttons on the doors do not move the pedals ?? Could this be a computer problem ? Or did the dealer not program the Key FOB's correctly when he bought it ??

1 more thing...my 04 Z-71 Tahoe says Driver 1 or Driver 2 depending on which key we use to start it on the DIC screen.... But His doesn't ????

Any help would be great.

Thanks

For the transmitters to know which is driver 1 or 2, they need to be programmed that way, in order. Follow the directions given and it should work. Maybe the order got messed up at one time and his is set up for two other remotes that he doesn't have. When you do the "procedure" it erases all remotes and only recognizes the ones you program from then on. Don't forget to turn the key to "on" once afterwards to complete the programming cycle. It's probably a good idea to do this exercise anyway, just to be sure you have the only two transmitters in your area that actuate your truck.

I don't know about the pedal height automatic adjustment. I do know my radio won't store the same stations for driver 1 and 2 if you press and hold the 1 or 2 in the door panel. It just switches to the other driver setting for the radio, but stores the seat and mirror settings correctly. Haven't tried the other key yet, maybe that's it...

Hey All- I got mine figured out...love the internet...bought a fob with like serial numbers on back...$12.99 buy it now on Ebay...then bought programming instructions specific to year/make/model for $2.99...from a place called remotes4less. Followed instructions and now have 2 working remotes! I used a fused wire in the Data Link Connector...not the turn off, turn on, etc. method as mentioned before.

Thanks for all input!

I've got a question....I have Driver 1 Keys, my Wife has Driver 2 Keys....the truck recognizes them, but for what purpose....I don't have Memory Seats or Pedals, so why Driver 1 & Driver 2 ?

I have to check the Radio ...but none of the other items change between Drivers...unless I'm missing something

Well guys - here is what the dealer gave my father in law today.

First is this a real service bulletin ???

I dont understand why GM would get rid of this option on all their full size trucks ??

Document ID# 1549809

05 Chevrolet/GMC/Cadillac/Hummer H2 All Full Size Trucks and Utilities Changes with Driver Personalization - kw seat memory mirror pedal HVAC radio DIC RKE FOB key program remote #PIT3163 - (Sept 14,2004)

05 Chevrolet/GMC/Cadillac/Hummer H2 All Full Size Trucks and Utilities Changes with Driver Personalization

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Starting in 2005, all full size trucks and utilities have had a change to the way driver personalization operates. Vehicles equipped with memory seats RPO AN3 will now only recall seat, mirror(DL3), and pedal (JF4) settings for driver 1 and 2 from the buttons located on the drivers door panel. The key fobs will no longer recall memory positions. Radio presets, HVAC(CJ2) and DIC (UK3) settings are now set to the vehicle, meaning there is only one setting for both drivers.

Recommendation/Instructions:

No repairs should be made as this is normal operation.

Pleaes follow the diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.

It doesnt change when you start the car - it changes when you hit the unlock button on the remote before you get into the vehicle.

I dont understand why GM would get rid of the option - even in the Escalade models as well. - I guess to save a few bucks or they had problems with it - I dont know - But I am really glad we bought a 04 Z-71.

The father in law is actually kinda of pissed about this - the dealer said it would change - just like ours and his Escalade EXT - (Salesmen Have NO idea about the vehicles they sell) if he knew it wouldnt work - we would have looked for a leftover 04 !!!

PS - beer belly - have you spying on me ?? I am 6'3" and 280lbs but you missed on the wife a little - she is 5'7" 140.
