2WD Drive Shaft Lube

This is interesting.... While changing the oil this past weekend, I happened to notice a zerk fitting on the rear drive shaft or maybe it was it the center bearing carrier. I don't what the offical term is. Anyhow, I pumped about 4-5 shots of grease into it. I didn't see any grease escape, so I'm wondering how to do you determine how much grease to add? The owners manual doesn't even reference it in the maintenance section. Also, how often should this thing be lubed? Thanks...

It doesn't need a whole lot of grease. I usually give it 3-4 pumps every time I change the oil when I'm lubing the other zerks. It's there to lube the slip joint in the drive shaft. Don't pump grease in until it comes out somewhere. If you do you'll start to notice a nice grease stripe on the underside of the bed. How do I know this? Well. Been there. Done that.

Grease it when you grease the front end..

Also, if you have the double carden u-joints, (this is the u-joint in the middle) you have to use a needle greaser to grease those u joints, if you have the single u-joint, you don't have to.
