Weather Stripping/ Rubber Seals

Recommended Posts

What is good for rubber seals and weather stripping? My gf's cars is getting some age and the seals around the door look like they could use a little freshening up. What is good for that?

Thanks

The owner's manual suggests dielectric silicone grease. It's the same stuff we use for high voltage connections and also to prevent moisture entry in connectors.

You should be able to get a small tube of it from RadioShack, I think GC Electronics makes it (among others).

Put some on your fingertips and wipe the seal down, then remove the excess with a paper towel.

Silicone spray is also good, but it might be hard to control where you spray unless you use the little plastic tube. Like Bud says, spray it on a rag and wipe it down.

:wtf: The best stuff I have found was recommended by a GM parts guy. It is called Silicon Emulsion. It comes in a little white plastic bottle that has a cotton dauber attached to the cap. It's about 3-4 bucks at the dealer parts counter. it is like a really thick cream. you put it on all the stripping, then leave it sit with the doors open until it dries/soaks in. One of the things glass guys and mechs have checked, then been surprised about, is that my seals are in good shape and soft as a babys bum. Due to having about 30 miles of weatherstripping on my truck i usually gjust smear the stuff on with my fingers instead of the dauber.
