Telescoping Mirrors

My telescoping mirrors will only work when they want to. I sometimes have to motivate them by giving them a little push to get them started. I was wondering if their is a fix or if I have to live with it. I have brought it to the dealer under warranty but they didn't fix them. They worked for a short time after I left the dealer, but now they are back to public aid.

Does anyone have any info on a fix?

I just got mine out of the shop today and they replaced the DS mirror under warranty because it needed some motivation to get started too. I thought I had heard they were just replacing parts but they put a new mirror on mine. I guess time will tell if it stays fixed.

I took it in because the list of "little stuff" was getting pretty long and it developed a tranny leak that finally couldn't be ignored. That was repaired per TSB #03-07-30-057 (copper washers under torque converter housing bolts).

I also complained about clunks in the front end on rough ground and asked if they would lube the intermediate steering shaft. They said they've been replacing them because there's been a design improvement and the one's they've lubed in the past come back. My problem wasn't all in the steering shaft. Apparently the whole front end was about to fall apart. They replaced a steering idler arm and the wheel bearings and hub on the right side. They ordered a steering shaft for it and it will get replaced when it comes in.

I guess it's nice knowing the front wheels aren't going to fall off but what really puts my mind at ease is knowing the tailgate straps are finally replaced! To top it all off, they put on a new radio knob because the paint was flaking off the old one.

Being at the dealer gave me a chance to check the prices on the new trucks, makes me like the one I've got even more!

By the way, the '05 brochures include a pretty nifty CD about the new trucks.

04 brochure has the CD too, shows almost the same pictures on the HD with just slight grill modifications. Shows that GM was messing around in photoshop for the 05 design.

I have to coax mine out all of the time. This is my second set. I had them replaced under warranty once already. I'm just learning to live with it. It only does it when it breaks below freezing. The extending mirrors suck. If I new how useless they would be when I bought the truck, I would have just stuck with the power folders. They are positioned too low and there is no magnification or convex on the passenger side making it almost useless. They are also very fragile when fully extended. F&*d and Dodge have alot better engineered camper mirrors for their trucks. It is no big deal to have to step outside to flop them over or slide them out. The power extending was a great concept, but the mirrors fail miserably.
