Rattle

I have a 01 Silverado 2500HD with a 6.0L Gas. Ever since i got it less than a year ago there was a wierd rattle sometimes, yes sometimes, when i accelerated, especially when i was towing something. I took it back to the dealer and said it might be the heatshield. They checked everything, greased some stuff and said it was fine. But it still rattled. what else could it be. Is it possible for a cadalitic converter to go bad. it is very annoying and i would like to get it solved soon. thanks

Yes, it is possible for a catalytic converter to go bad. On my buddy's jeep, it had a weird rattle when we shook the exhaust. A couple weeks later whatever it was broke loose and plugged the exit of the cat. It took forever to climb the mountain passes at 5 to 10 mph, pulling his boat.

I'd get a big rubber hammer and crawl under the truck, tapping on the exhaust and anything else that might rattle under load. If it's cool, grab hold of the pipes in different places and shake it back and forth and up and down.

Hope you find it before it becomes a bigger problem, like on the jeep.
