1995 Z71 Motor

My brother in-law was reving his engine in his 95 Z71 4X4, with a 350, and it suddenly developed a knocking sound. I suspect he spun a bearing or two or three. My question is.. Can you replace the bearings without pulling the motor. It has 190,000 miles on it.

It can be done without pulling the engine if its a rod bearing, but I would suggest pulling the oil pan and check for excessive wear before throwing parts in  With 190K it's going to depend on how much shrapnel is in the pan and how much damage the bad bearing(s) did to the crank. If it looks good, it may not be a bad idea to throw in a new oil pump while he's in there. Also keep in mind that the rear main seal is a one piece seal, so if you change the crank bearings and want to change the rear main seal the tranny or engine will have to come out to get to the retainer...at least that's what I had to do on the last one I did in '94.......... just something to watch for...GOOD LUCK!
