New truck, need advice

Hey everyone, I just recently bought a 2002 Silverado Ext. Cab 4x4, 5.3L, right now it has 245/75R16's on it and I'm looking into getting new tires...possibly 265s or 270s, anyone have any advice on that. Also, any advice on throwing in a K&N and does it help much with high end output...i've heard good things about low end. Any other tips or tricks that you all may have would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'll move this over to the light duty area where you'll likely get some good answers. Personally, I replaced my stock 265's with the same size Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo and have been quite pleased.

I replaced the stock 245s with REVO 265s and love them. I don't really care about race track performance so I didn't really notice a loss by increasing tire size.

I swapped out my original Firestone 265's for BFG AT KO 285's, and I'm very happy with them...I used the factory wheels and didn't have to touch the torsion bars or anything. No rubbing or speedo issues (speedo is dead on actually). As far as the K&N FIPK goes, I think it helped top end more than anything...makes a nice sound when you punch it too (buwhaaaaaaa) If you really want to get some bang for your buck, I'd recommend checking out the PCMforLess link to the left. Bryan Herter can work wonders for your truck!

did you have any problems with mounting when switching to the larger tire on stock rims? also, how did you go about getting the speedo adjusted, or did you just leave it?

If you decide to go with 285's from 245's, you will have some spedo issues. Westers can fix this problem and tune your truck too!!

Im going to be putting in an Amsoil Air Filter in my truck. They flow more air than a K&N filter and trap 3 times more dirt than a stock filter.

I dont think you can go wrong with the amsoil air filter

Drive it like you stole it and never look back!

Other than that, K&N/exhaust will help. If you open the intake and put more air in, you need to open the exhaust and let it out.

mattphp1 - if you have the standard wheels (steel) they are 6.5" wide and no one recommended putting the 265s on those. Not saying you can't, just that the manufactures recommend a minimum 7" rim. I just eBayed the factory GM aluminum 7" mag type wheels for < $200 and put the 265s on. I wouldn't worry about the speedo or anything else. I bought a hypertech and changed the tire size so the speedo and shift points would be right, I actually uninstalled it, I liked how the truck shifted better without the tire size correction. It seems to downshift earlier, I guess maybe it thinks it is moving slower than it is?? GO to Bridgestone.com or BFGoodrich.com and they show the recommended wheel widths for tire sizes. Good Luck.

i know this probably sounds stupid, but looking around on ebay i'm seeing that the aluminum rims that are for sale look like the ones on my truc, is there any way i can tell for sure whether they are the steel or aluminum?

No problems here, and as far as the speedo goes, it's dead on (maybe it was a little off originally?). If you're curious about the aluminum wheels, that's what I have:

Awesome...I'm going to get the REVOs Friday. My friend works at a shop and I'm getting a hell of a deal on them. $580 mounted balanced and aligned. Cant beat it!
