Chirping sound

I noticed a few weekends ago when i started my truck i have a chirping sound coming from under the hood.

Just wondering if anyone had a problem like this.  I noticed it also today.  Both times i heard it it was about 40-50 degrees out (sat all night)

I am thinking it could be a belt?

have you been parking it outside over night?   My truck will do that if I leave it outside over night and the temp drops.  I just figured it was condensation on the belt or something.  I know my brakes will squeak pretty bad sometimes when left out over night.

my truck is outside 24/7 and has been since i got it

i know the brakes squeak and such in the morning.  Never noticed this chirp under the hood though guess it has something to do with the temp changes

I hear that same chirping sound too (for the past week its been in the 30-50s).  My truck is out 24/7, taking whatever central IL can throw at it.  I wish I had a garage, or at least a canopy.  I believe it is the belt also.  I have no idea on how to cure the problem.  GM suggests not spraying the belt.  I'm not concerned with it.  I think it is just a condensation thing.  Should a truck chirp though?  I nice growl would be nice!

Pretty sure it's moisture on the belt.  I have the same issue on cold and/or damp mornings (it's out 24/7 also), but not on all damp mornings.  It goes away after a few minutes, so I'm not worried about it either.

I would definitely stay away from any belt "dressing".  I had big problems with this on a serpentine belt about 10 years ago, and ended up replacing the pulleys and tensioner   .

I mentioned the chirping to a service manager, who seems to know his stuff, and he advised me to not spray anything on it.

My moms 00 blazer had a similar noise with a knock.  My dad took it in and they replaced the serpentine belt.  Noise gone.  Hers is garaged all the time and not driven very many miles either

Oddly, my chirping hasn't gotten worse over the last 2 years, and even did it at about the same rate after a new belt was installed.  Who knows!?

Yeah, but I can see where belt wear might make it more likely as well, moisture or otherwise.  Over time the v-grooves get pretty slick.

I only have 16,000 miles on mine (bought in April).  I haven't been through cold stuff with it yet, nor the snow.  I WANT SNOW!!!!!! :D   My Silhoutte did that same squeeking noise.  We put dressing on it since it was near the end of its 206,000 mile life anyway.  Squeek left for a week or so, then it came back even more viscious.

MINE HAS ALMOST 22k bought april 00.  Been through 1 winter and 2 blizzards so far.

Mine does that occasionally in cold weather, and even though it isn't a new one like your guys.  And I know for a fact mine was the belt, because I checked under the hood one morning when it made that noise.

btw, like was mentioned above, do not but belt dressing on it.  I thought it would take care of the problem above but it only made things worse.  I ended up replacing the old belt with a high quality Gates belt, and that took care the chirping.
