255/85/16 ???

Would like to know if anyone is running these (brand too) and if you like them. Need to replace my 245's soon and I am leaning towrds this size.

There are a couple guys here running 255s,I'm sure they'll post soon. IIRC they even have some pics. When I need new tires in the Fall,I'll more than likely go with 255s. I like the height of the 285s,but IMO they look stretched over the 6.5" stock rims. The 255s are the same height,but a bit narrower. The best of both worlds.

how would these work on an 8" rim? I want the height of the 285 but not the width either..... Or would it be better to just get the 285 with the 8" rim?

Would you have to trim or crank the t-bars with this size tire? Or would you have to do the same thing as you would with 285's?

I have 255/85/16's on my 2002 2500HD 8.1/allison/EC/LB and love them. I did have to crank the t-bars a little just so they would not rub. They were very close to fitting without have to crang the t-bars a little. I did not have to trim anything which made me happy. The extra height I gained made it so I did not play road grader with the bottom of my truck when I went to my favorite hunting spot.

Don't for forget to get an alignment if the adust your t-bars.

Thanks guys, Any recommended brand ? The selection seems to be slim in that size. I only find a few on Tirerack.com.

I've got the 255/85/16 Toyo M55s. VERY nice tire! Designed for commercial use & super tough. The tread is pretty aggressive for an A/T. I had to crank the bars a little but nothing serious. I like the 'old school' 4x4 look with the skinnier tires so that was a plus although, they don't too narrow once you get them on. I've got the 5 speed so tranny shift points wasn't a factor.

The size isn't too common, I had to special order mine.

Perfect balance of look & function.

I agree, I want the ground clearance of the 285's but don't want the extra width. I like a narrower footprint tire for driving in wet and snowy conditions (a higher psi ratio for the footprint.) I can also stay with the stock wheels.

You should also check out 235/85-16. You can get the Bridgestonve REVO's in this size as well.
