Smitty,

Where did you get the sub box? I am interested in making the stock system in my truck sound better. I think this would be a good start. I have a speaker that I had in my 94 Z71 but I kept it in the back seat, I dont want to do this again.

The box (stealthbox) is made my JL Audio. It comes preloaded with a W3 12" sub. JL also makes a lower end Vantage series box for the Silverado, this box is cheaper and doesn't comes with a sub. The stealthbox w/ the 12" sub was about ?.00, and worth every penny, it sounds like two 12" subs. You can check out all the boxes at www.jlaudio.com

I did a custom install last year on my 2001 extended cab and ran the wires in several loactions.  The power wire went from the battery (with fuse & holder) through the firewall underneath the driver side steering column.  I drilled the hole below the brake booster and used a grommet.  The hole is high enough that water and debris should not be an issue.  From there, I ran the power wire along with the remote turn-on wire behind the kick panel and down under the carpet just inside of the step moldings, and around the back of the rear seat to connect with the amp that is mounted on the tunnel.   The ground wire runs about a foot away from the power wire down the same run.

I ran the 3 sets of preamp inputs from the back of the head unit down the instrument panel and then they run down the center tunnel underneath the carpet (I have 60/40 split, so no center console).  This is a little tricky getting them through to the back of the tunnel, but if you take your time you can fish them through and cut a small slit in the carpet just in front of your amp to plug them in.  Make sure you don't run the power/ground and RCAs right next to each other.  Even the best RCAs will have a hard time keeping whine and interference out of the system.

If you have any other questions on the install, I would be happy to share them.  Send me a mail if you are.  Good luck!
