I have the same truck(except for DMax). I pulled 12,000# over Eisenhower and Vail passes in CO. It was two Bobcats on a bumber tongue trailer and it handled very well. I was impressed, especially for a 3/4 ton truck. Oh yeah, the DMax pulls like a raped ape. Your load should handle better with the gooseneck.

I imagine the 8.1L would pull it as fast as you dared to. That motor is a real puller too. I thought your question was directed more at handling and suspension load.

Well, according to my 2003 sales brochure, a 2500HD, 8.1 Ally ranges from 13,200# to 16,100# depending on Axle ratio and cab style. For an ECLB, it's 13,700 for a 3.73 and 15,700 for a 4.10 axle. Not sure what your truck is cab-wise, but it's close to there. There is also a note that Trailer Kingpin weight should be 15 to 25% of the total loaded trailer weight (up to 3,000# on 2500HD models).

Man, I'm glad the P.O. kept the sales brochure. There's a lot of good info in there that's hard to find anywhere else! Hope it helped you out some, too...

I'd me most concerned about having a good electric brake controller, thats the most important factor to consider. The truck can pull the weight fine.

Don't worry about not having enough power and use the tow/haul feature to activate the grade braking of the Allison.
