Fyrcaptain Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Why does Cadillac have like 8 or 9 nav discs (each for a different part of the US) for their nav radios? Why is their latest (for 05) single disc DVD a version 6.0 when the latest GM single disc DVD is v3.0? Will the Caddy DVD discs work in a 0099 TNR radio? Thanks

Thanks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Without know what nav and/or vehicle model those multi-disc Caddy nav discs were for (definitely not for the Escalade), I'd say that (based purely on assumption) back then, those 8 or 9 discs were either pressed to CD or single-layer DVD. The 6.0 DVD you're referring to is for a entirely different nav model (obviously not found in our NBS GM fullsize trucks/SUVs), hence a different rev. Why it's a "6", I have no idea since I've never had a reason to follow the various revisions for that particular nav. I dunno if there was a 1.0 rev for our nav DVDs but if so, I can only assume that it was for late '03 (when the nav option was first available on the late-'03 Denali/Escalade), then 2.0 for '04, and now 3.0 for '05.
Fyrcaptain Posted March 17, 2005 Author Posted March 17, 2005 Thanks Toneman. There are always a lot of the Caddy multi disc versions up on ebay Disc 1 Western States, Disc 2 Central US etc etc etc up to #8 or 9 Then I saw a Version 6 Caddy DVD nav disc and just wanted to make sure that the Caddy folks aren't getting something better in the nav software arena that us regular 'ole GM guys!

Thanks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The caddy cars use a Denso made nav unit, the new ones are DVD based and the older ones where CD based, that is why they needed so many. the NBS trucks and SUV"s use a Delphi made nav unit and they are aslo DVD based. The two different brands and types will not interchange the mapping disc's
