herbally Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 I've got an 04 GMC Sierra with XM Radio. On the aftermarket XM Radio reciever I have it shows Station name, number, artist name, and song title. The factory HU isn't capable of displaying this info? Also, whats the info button for? Just tells me "No info" when I push it. Thanks Herbally
lrymal Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 At the risk of being rude and silly, I'd suggest read the truck's manual for the XM. It has more information anyone would care to know regarding XM.
biochemist Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Just hit the RCL button (knob)...it is the bottom one of the two knobs...it will display this info for you for XM, the INFO button is for AM/FM station info...later,
herbally Posted March 18, 2005 Author Posted March 18, 2005 At the risk of being rude and silly, I'd suggest read the truck's manual for the XM. It has more information anyone would care to know regarding XM. ....the manual refers to buttons such as "Display" which are not labeled the same on my head unit. The button which was supposed to be display is actually recall on mine. Just hit the RCL button (knob)...it is the bottom one of the two knobs...it will display this info for you for XM, the INFO button is for AM/FM station info...later Thanks for the answer biochemist! The manual isn't very useful. P.S. Perhaps before making a "rude and silly" remark, you should at least know what you're talking about. Just a suggestion.

lrymal Posted March 19, 2005 Posted March 19, 2005 Oh Good LORD! I knew I was going to get in trouble. I knew it, I KNEW it! I knew as soon as I typed that message that I was going to come across just as I said: rude and silly. Ok, we have fallen victim to the GMPWM syndrome. The GMPWM syndrome has been known to make brother fight against brother, sane readers turn insane, and sales droids, attempting to help their customers, to go The GMPWM syndrome is one reason why folks just drive their vehicles rather than learning more about it. The GMPWM? Oh, defined thusly: GENERAL MOTORS PATHETICALLY WRITTEN MANUAL. I maintain that you'll find nearly anything you typically need to know in the manual, but you have to wade between the baby seats and instructions on how to drive on icey roads. You may find oil capacities next to instructions on how to use seat belts. You may find the bulb specs listed as, "For bulbs not listed, consult your dealer." Ok, with that said, my manual spends more than a few pages on XM radio. Oh yes, it is THERE! I tell ya, it is THERE! You are introduced to two pages of XM error code charts FIRST, then instructions on how to use XM radio. So, with totally at the risk of sounding silly, here's the actual instructions about artist / song stuff on page 3-99. Now, this is applicable for two manuals that I have, my 2003 truck, and my 2005. And that applies here, in the moon phase, in this pixel of earth where I historically live at this point in time: To wit, and praise be to GM's technical writers for consumer manuals: "For XM (if equipped), press the INFO knob while in XM mode to retrieve four different categories of information [albeit in marvelous 8 character-wide display, in glorious green technicolor--rymal] related to the current song or channel: Artist, Song Title, Category or PTY, Channel Number / Channel Name." "To change the default on the display, press the INFO knob until you see the display you want, then hold the knob until you hear a beep. The selected display will now be the default." So, I'll happily take my punishment, but I beg, please don't let the GMPWM sway the thrashing....
