Westers for me too? Need Advice/data

Hi guys, I a thinking about a tune :wtf: ...but I want your advice. Which tune did you get? What do you like/dislike about it? How easy is Westers to deal with? What improvments did you see/feel? Increase in MPG? Transmission shifts better/firmer/softer...will it get rid of the 2-3 clunk most of us seem to have? Let me know your experiences...does your dealer have a problem with you having a tune installed, did it void any of your warranty? How much extra power did you see and feel, how long did it take to learn? I am not running any races or anything, but more power is always good :bs: ...I live fairly close to Tbyrne, so they could put it in I suppose...I will call them to talk about this, I just want YOUR opinions and real life experience with Westers...thanks, I will be waiting, later,:fume::flag:

I guess I'll chime in since it is so quiet in here!

Alright, I have an 89 octane tune from Wester's and I have been VERY pleased with it. I brought the truck in for warranty stuff 3 times while the new pcm was installed, and they never said a word about not fixing anything. The only comment I ever got was from a tech who test drove my truck, he said I got a factory freak or something, as the 4.8L I had was really strong. LOL. It took my truck about 200 miles to really learn all the stuff with the tune. The transmission firmed up nice, and with tow/haul engaged and heavy throttle it will break the tires at the 1-2 shift with my measly 3.42 rear end! lol

Here's exactly what I ordered in my first email to Wester's, I haven't had a single problem, no pinging, nothing wrong in ~35,000 miles...

Programming:

-- Firmer Transmission Shifting

-- Hold in Gear Longer

-- Lower the Torque Management as much as is safe

-- Raise the Wide Open Throttle Shift Points to 5600 RPMS

-- Raise the Speed Limiter to 130MPH

-- Tow/Haul set up for Towing so that I can still tow

reliably, firmer than stock

-- 89 Octane Tune (Gas Mileage Increase)

I gained about 2 MPG overall in combined driving, the transmission works like it's supposed to, and it seemed to do wonders off the line (lowering of the T.M.). On the highway at speeds around 60MPH or so, you can really feel the increase in power. I ordered a stock PCM from Wester's as I had planned on trading my truck, after swapping it out with the tuned one, I couldn't believe the difference. Definitely the best "bang for the buck" mod out there in my opinion. I ended up keeping the truck, and sent that stock PCM back, I couldn't stand it! I'm going to order a 91 "Hot" tune when gas prices get back down a little bit (if they do), and I'm not towing as often. A buddy has a 93 "Hot" Wester's tune, and his truck has tons of power.

Anyways, Good luck man... :D

thanks for the testimony as I'm thinking of this mod and wondered how to fill out my order.

stupid question:

87/91/97 ????? am I right? I dont want to get off my ass and go look so I'm posting here instead :D

Send them an email about the tune before hand if you'd like, they answered all sorts of stuff about mine before I ordered it.

For the gas grades it depends on location I think.

Here in Mississippi the most common grades are: 87, 89, 93

Where I travel in Tennessee and all over the SouthEast, the main ones seem to be: 87, 89, 91

We have a station by the airport that sells 100 octane.. I wish I could afford it.
