Whipple install in Denali - update

Recommended Posts

Posted

I posted a few inquiries during the last months, and got some really good response, so I promised to update a few people on my progress, and I'll just use this as an open document. I was contemplating installing myself, but am intimidated - don't want to blow up a new engine...

3/1 I bought a "used" (500 miles) Whipple on E-bay and knew I was short on components. I decided to go with a custom tune, and skip the Whipple electronics. I thought for a while of using KB's piggyback, or a Wester's but decided upon a local custom tune. Livernois Speed Works came very highly recommended from everyone, so I decided upon letting them install. I also decided upon Delphi's 42# injectors, and leave the rest alone.

3/8 I sent photos of what I bought and called Whipple but was told to buy a new complete blower (I guess that is what they are in business for...), but they settled for selling me the airtube, and the belt. Placed an order, received the components

3/15 - Stopped by at Livernois speed works and talked to Scott and Virgil about the install. I showed my blower and after Scott's assurance was told to drop the car off. Very supportive people. Feel very comfortable with letting them install the unit.

3/18 - Had a friend drop the car off and left for a business trip to California. Also found a dirt cheap GForce lowering kit that I asked them to install.

3/21 - Scott called and informed me that more parts were missing, throttle body ( I thought I could use the stock one...) and some mounting hardware. No big deal, he was going to talk to Whipple and call me back..

3/22 - Scott cannot get any information, spare parts listing or help from Whipple. The only solution provided is to return the blower to Whipple for 'service" and then they will supply a spare parts listing. Oh yeah, they want to get paid for that too of course. Now I am getting this info second hand, but I have no reason to second guess Livernois... since I was met with the same lack of enthusiasm from Whipple. Well, this is a market economy...

3/22 - Fed up, will abandon the project, spend the money elsewhere - install a garrett GT-37 instead.

To be continued...

That sucks. I guess Whipple isn't too concerned about what people think of poor customer service. Even if you didn't buy yours direct through them they should be willing to help you out and sell you any additional parts you need. It's not like you asked them to give parts to you for free or anything.

Looking forward to the updates.. :D
