When I turn the key to the start position, there is a 1/4 to 1/2 second delay before the starter actually starts turning. What is the cause? I drive other GM cars and no other vehicle has this start delay....just curious....

Normal, but kind of weird "feeling" I know. My '05 Colorado is the same way, as are most that use the PCM to start the vehicle rather than like they did it in the "old days".

When you turn to the start position, you're sending a crank request to the PCM. That processes the request and if all conditions are right to start the engine (it ain't already running) then it activates the start relay, which then sends power to the starter solenoid. That's the time it takes for all that to happen, I guess.

Thanks for the explaination..I guess there is a lot of logic to check before the PCM gives a thumbs up for start sequence...sounds like Star Wars.....
