heater wouldn't shut off

the other day i was driving and my friend had the passenger side heater control moved all the way to Hot, and then when she got warm and moved it back down to Cool, it kept putting out HOT air. it was really uncomfortably hot, and it kept doing it even after i moved the right knob and shifted the airflow from "all top" to "all bottom"

however, when i shut the truck off and started it back up, it was fine. is this something that i should have the dealer fix right away, or was this a one-time glitch?

btw, the truck is a 2005 LS with the two vertical sliders for the climate control

I know this isn't much help, but I've observed a similar problem with my truck.

Turning the heat down doesn't always make it cooler. Like you did, I noticed that if I cycled the truck power (engine off then on) the heat output would end up being where I expected it.

Pain in the rear to deal with it in this manner while I'm on the turnpike.

I found out that if I turn the blower off and then back on that the temperature ends up where the knob says it should be.

It's not a fix, but it lets me get through the trip.

I've read about other people having a similar problem, but don't recall seeing a real resolution to the issue. If you figure something out, please let us know.

i tried cycling the fan power off and back on, no luck -- the heat stopped while it was off but came back when i turned the fan back on. fortunately this all happened right as i was parking...

I've had this problem with my 2001 (no split driver/passenger heater controls). If I have the selector set for the floor, the temperature never wants to cool off as I move the temperature knob. I have to have just a little bit of vent turned on also and then the temperature will go down. I don't have any problem at all when the selector is set for the dash vents or defroster. I had it to the dealer once to fix it but it didn't seem to make any difference. It is out of warranty now. :uhoh:
