01BlackZ71 Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 Ok, does my 2001 Z71 have bilstein or monroe shocks on it from the factory? I can't read much on them anymore, but they are red. My friend says his 98 Z71 has bilstein's and that the newer ones, including my 2001, have Monroe's. Thanks
MS3DALE Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 Your friend is right,The new-body-style trucks have shocks made by Tenneco Automotive which makes shocks under the Monroe and Rancho names just to name a couple.
01z71 Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Yes, they are red and are tennecco automotive shocks. However, I replaced mine with Yellow Bilsteins and the ride was so much more firm and all around improved the ride.
budhayes3 Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Replaced my Tennaco's with Bilstein's also, man what a difference...truck rides solid, not harsh
99silveradoz71 Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 I'll 3rd the Tenneco to Bilstein replacement and 43k later I'm still pleased
MS3DALE Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 I only have 11,000 miles on my '04 but I'm seriously considering switching to Bilsteins. I always loved them on my other trucks and was disappointed that GM quit using them. Did you guys switch right away or wait until the factory stockers wore out a little?
PELICAN Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 While I do not have a Z71, I replaced the shocks on my 2wd with Rancho 5000 after the stock ones (which were blue) got old and really like the ride.
MS3DALE Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Yea,The stock blue shocks are also made by Tenneco, they are part of the "heavy-duty suspension pkg." option code Z85.
99silveradoz71 Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Did you guys switch right away or wait until the factory stockers wore out a little? Mine got swapped at 36k with the tires shortly afterward
