Hi guys, been busy this week or would have updated earlier... :D . Ok, so last week Butch uploaded a 91/93 HOT tune into my truck...I noticed immediatley after leaving his place a difference in power, now I was running 93 when I got to his place, so that may have had something to do with it not taking alot of time to learn. The results are excellent thus far, read below my inital results: :D

 

1) Power/Torque: much peppier than before, extra power throughout the RPM range. Off the line is much better without hesitation that was there before. Just gas and go, smooth, quick acceleration...and yes, for those who care she will spin the tires a bit, which is saying something with REVO's @ 35 psi and a G80...the highway is really noticable, it used to downshift going up hills, not any more, OD pulls like 3rd now!! Can spin the tires taking off in second on a damp road too. All 4 gears are pulling much better than before the tune...1st is really powerful now, second pulls like first, third pulls like second and OD pulls like third! Sometimes I swear it is in second but it is not, it is in third... :mad: When you get on it you can really feel all the power in the high RPM range, it feels like a turbo kicks in!!! Really moves and pulls hard on the highway, great to be going ~70 then lightly press down and get up to 85 in no time :D . Was not nearly has powerful before. I caution you all though, you will find yourself going about 10-15 MPH over what you are used to. I know on the way home last Sat, I found myself going 85 quite often...watch out for cops!! You can really get going without downshifting from OD now, from 60 to 90 quickly, unlike before. 1, 2 and 3 and OD all have more power as I said, can really get up and accelerate compared to before. I never measured a 0-60, but I can assure you without a doubt it is much, much quicker now than before!!!! Makes in town driving fun since my rig is not sluggish any longer and HW driving a joy, makes the truck feel lighter, does not feel like ~6000 pounds now that she is tuned!! Excellent!!

 

2) Shifting: 1-2 is held a bit longer and is more consistant than before. Also, the harder you accelerate the firmer the shift, especially in T/H mode which is on race mode now, shifts at hgher RPM and firms up all the shifts quite a bit....really feels good and firm when you get on it (like it should) and smooth when just putting around. Best of both worlds IMO :D. Also, OD does not kick in until ~47 MPH now, which is good for around town driving, she used to go into OD at ~37...then was always downshifting, no more, really helps town and country driving!! The 2-3 clunk I have always heard is gone for the most part also, which is cool. I used to hear this 60-70% of the time, now only once in a while (10% of the time) and it is quieted down then also, have to really listen for it now....very good. Probably cannot remove this all of the time given the numerous acceleration and driving characteristics we can exhibit during a normal day, buy Lyndon can remove most of this characteristic that so many of us have, which was a good selling point for me in addition to the power and MPG increases...again, Excellent!!

 

3) MPG: On my way to tune I used 93 octane and got ~17.1 MPG, on the way home I topped 19 going ~75 MPH with runs to 85-90 a few times...WOW...right after I tuned too! I have been getting on it hitting ~100 MPH a time or two...with about half and half city/HW and still above 16 MPG!! I have usually seen ~14.5 this winter, so it appears the MPG increases will be quite good! ~2 MPG each for city and HW! I bet you could go 20+ if you held at 70 MPH! The rig seems to idle smoother also...Excellent!!

 

There is my ~1 week review, will post again after a month or so to let everyone know the MPG increases as I will settle my driving down a bit!! I highly recommend the tune. Thanks to Butch and Lyndon for working with me, I highly recommend the uploading process, makes the process quite easy. Lyndon and Butch are also very easy to talk with via email or phone, cool :cool:, both very knowledgeable . Hope this helps in any decision anyone is trying to make about whether or not to tune...do it, the driveability is awsome and much improved, but watch the speed, you will speed, but it sure is fun!!! after hearing about all the rave reviews about westers I think that is what I am going to go with once I put dual exhaust on my truck later this year.Glad to hear it is working great for you :D

Chemical Man, that is one of the best reviews I have read yet on a Wester's tune. The things truly are beyond what words can convey :D !!! You gotta experience it !!!

Glad you are pleased with the tune! The remote loading works really nicly, and we will be expanding that so it is available in more parts of the country this year.. We will also be shipping from our US tuning locations too so the delivery times for Wester's tunes will be a day or two, anywhere in the country!

So what would be the steps to load a tune to my vehicle? Could I have my truck at home and hook it up or would I have to drive to one of your locations?

You would need to go to one of the locations. The software/hardware/equipment is all custom and costs us many thousands of dollars for each dealers setup. We have the ability to tune all 96-2005+ GM trucks and cars. As an extra service, we will also have live datalogging available at most of the dealers locations. After the tune, and after it has a good 100 miles learn time, we can datalog your truck, complete with true air/fuel ratios. We link the log back to Lyndon, and he fine-tunes the tune based on the readings, changes the tune, and we flash the tweaked tune into your truck.

 

Prices haven't changed, we are doing this to make Wester's excellent service even better!

Do not want to steal the tread but it is question about Wester

I have a GMC ECSB 5.3 Z-71, have a cap and also carry ladders for work

drive just over the limlted 105 km/hr(65 mph) on 4 lane highway and about 90km/hr(55 mph) on 2 line road. 95%of driving in the country and not city.

The only tow I would is moving the kids :D

Would it be worth getting a tuner put in? I would looking at increased mileage.

Do you have any dealers in the Toronto area

I am also interested in the tune for 87 gas. I took the tune out of my 2001 truck because it has been pinging but want to do the tune for the 2004 truck maybe. Will I have to pay anything for a tune for the 2004 truck?

I usually recommend that if it is only gas mileage you are after, then a tune probably isn't worth the cost. Most Wester's owners with the new 3Dmapping will see 2+ more mpg on the highway, some get more, I got 3+ more in my 6.0. I can say though, that most anyone that has gotten a tune, even just for the fuel mileage gains, has commented that the gains in performance, shifting and overall drivability have been more than worth it, the truck just drives and feels better!

 

Sorry, no-one up in the Toronto area yet, but we can still ship a PCM directly to you, swap it, and send the old one back.
