Lately I've been noticing a clunking noise which seems to be coming from either the rear-end or the drive-shaft. It happens when I accelerate from a low speed. Maybe from 1st gear to 2nd gear. Is there a known problem with this in the TB's?

Thanks

Haven't had any driveline CLUNK complaints in the TB, but the extended version does have a driveshaft noise we see frequently. This noise is a little ping or crackle noise, and it occurs when shifting from park to drive, drive to reverse or vice versa. Sometimes, you hear it once when you first take off after backing out.

The fix is to replace the driveshaft.

This is what I found in another forum for Trailblazers "For those of you that are experiencing this problem, please notify your dealer to call tech support for this and ask about the "special drive shaft" that they need to order and replace your current one. If they order the "normal part" for the trailblazer out of the parts book, they will not get the problem fixed....you will have the problem return within 3 to 6 weeks of driving. PLEASE stay on them to pursue this problem so you do not have to go through this multiple times. ". Is there anything to this?

I'm not aware of a "special driveshaft". Just ordering one from GMSPO fixes it... most of the time.

Yes, there have been one or two that we've put a new shaft in and a few months later they come back with the same noise. I called our technical assistance group when this happpened and they say just put another shaft in. Nothing about any special driveshaft. But this has only happened once or twice out of the several dozen driveshafts we've replaced.

The information we have is that we are to examine for gaps in the welds at the ends of the tube and to make sure the new one doesn't have any gaps before we install it. I've never been able to see any gap whether one of these shafts makes noise or doesn't make noise. Must be microscopic!

Thanks for yout help, it's greatly appreciated, and thanks for clarifying this problem. I will take it to the dealership to have it checked out. Its a little hard to explain what exactly is going on. It happens when I'm rolling along at a few miles/hr and then accelerate. It seems like there is a little pause and then she'll make the "clunk" sound. It really does sound like it comes from the drive shaft but I maybe wrong
