Well, I have been trying to solve this on my own since I bought my truck 2 weeks ago. For fun I went onto the GM website and did the 'build your vehicle" for my 2005 Silverado Z71. To my surprise if I put Z71 down it comes up with fog lights and a trailer package. My truck does not have either? No matter what I put in it still came up the same. I bought this truck from a dealer with 27,000km on her. Is it possible to order a Z71 without the trailer pkg and fog lights? If so, I guess my problem is solved. And yes, on the RPO codes in glove box it does say Z71.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

I just found this on the net...it might answer my question:

Z71 Offroad Package

The Z71 offroad package includes 45-mm gas-charged shock absorbers, offroad jounce bumpers, specific stabilizer bars, a skid-plate package, and a high-capacity air cleaner. Z71 decals are used on the pickup box to identify the trucks.

More Z71 (Optional) Features:

Cruise control

Rear defogger

Power door locks

Remote keyless entry

AM/FM stereo with CD and cassette player

Leather-wrapped steering wheel

Power windows

Fog lamps

Color-keyed grille

Deep-tinted glass

You didnt state if this truck has the "LS" or "LT" trim levels. LT includes fog lamps. The trailering PKG is included in the Light Duty PWR package w/ 5.3L gas eng. and includes Locking rear axle.

I always get the LT because it gives me a lot of the options. Buying a LS and adding those options costs more in the long run.

My 99 Silverado Z71 has the LT trim and the fog lamps are listed as part of that trim group. The "Z71 off-road" package includes shocks, frame bumpers and stabilizer bars, a skid plate and HD air cleaner.

The truck came with a trailering package that was a separate item on the sticker; for $285, I got a Class III hitch, 7-wire harness, trailer brake controller harness, and a tranny cooler.

My truck has the LS trim package as far as I know. It has the 5.3 aluminum head engine. Locker rear end(G80). Power locks, doors. No power seats. Cloth interior with armrest and not console. It sounds like the trailer pkg and fog lights could well have been taken off order. I just thought it strange that all the Z71's had hitches and fog lights from what I could see. This is the problem when you dont buy new I guess. But I just wanted to know as much as I could. It would have been so nice to have gotten a hold of the original window sticker with the options listed. I thought maybe someone had taken off the hitch but no way no sign of that. It does have the tow button on the shifter but I presume they all came with that.

The dealers have special marketing packages available to them and get special pricing on these packages. I suspect thats what your truck has.

You say your truck was used? and an 05? How many miles did it have on it?

It had 27,000km and miles around 12000 I guess. But today I was in one of the local dealer lots and found a truck which made me cheer up. It was a 2005 Z71 crew cab with 10,000 on it and it did not have fog lights or a trailer hitch. So therefore I presume that the Zer can be ordered with out these factory options. Its so weird that you cannot build your truck on the website without them? Oh well, Im glad I saw that today. One day, I will put a hitch on her. It just would not be a complete truck without it. By the way the price on that crew cab was $36,999.00

Z71 can either be a model or a stand alone option, when its a model it comes with a lot of other items such as fog lamps,am-fm-cass-cd and locking rr.diff. (trailering pkg.is still an option however,it does not come with the Z71 pkg.)

When its a stand alone option it only comes with the shocks,decals,skid-plates,high capacity air cleaner and different jounce bumpers. I do believe that starting in '04 however that a locking rr.diff.comes with the Z71 pkg. before that you had to spec. it out.

GM changes option packages year to year which makes it hard to remember whats available year to year! :P

Looking at your pic I notice that the truck has what looks like 16" rims. I thought 17' rims were all you could get on an '05. 2004 was the last year the 16 inchers were available, at least according to the GM Canada website.

My .02 cents

You know I thought something didn't look right but your right, the 05's all have 17's as std. equipment.

Yep,It definatley has the 17's,that picture is a lot more clearer than the other one you had up before.

Thanks all,,,,dont know what I was thinking by using that other photo. Im still not sure if I like fender flares on her or not? I personally feel that if they use the 2tone paint they should use the flares as well.

How do you all feel about that?
