350 vortec

I have a 1999 chevy crew cab with 350 vortec. The rear end is a 4:10 and I was just curious what other people get for gas milage? I have been lucky to get 10mpg. Does gutting the cats hurt the power and milage? The owner before me did that and I planned on restoring them. Thanks.

Yep, with closed loop engines, you start hacking thing out you can hurt perfomance and MPG. With CATS chopped out there will be a loss of low speed torque and excessivley unburned fuel going down the pipe. That engien as designed and tuned expect to see some backpressure which has been removed. I have 2000 K3500 that does abot 13 in town and 16 on hiway with a 5.7 and 4.10's and it is stock.
