better MPG when my foot is in it

I own an 03 sierra with a 4.8 auto, regular cab, i would have went for the 5.3 if i went for the extended. I've installed a K&N intake and dual exhaust. I noticed a big highway MPG increase right off the bat but my city MPG dropped! So lately i've just been getting into it a little more around town, usually pulling a 2.5 or 3 on the tac when accelerating then feathering it to keep it up to speed. My city MPG went from low 14's to around 16. I didn't believe it at first but the last two tanks have made me a believer. I guess losing some of that low end torque hurts me when i keep my foot out of it 'trying' to save a little gas. If you've got the same setup lemme know if it works for you too.

I noticed this too. Well not really an increase but my MPG stays the same between keeping it around 2000 RPM and stomping on the gas all the time. Overall, I'm not seeing the 15-16 mpg everyone seems to be getting around town.

I tried driving for 2 tanks of gas like an old fart using as little throttle as possible. I noticed an improvement of 1mpg. I typically get 16 and I upped it to 17.

Woo...

(I do lots of highway driving.)

What do you mean? Are you getting up to speed quicker rather than "babying" it? I will try anything to get better than 14!

Yea, for me, just letting the engine work in its own power range helped out a lot. I didn't try to keep the RPMs low to "save" gas. I guess all engine are different but try running it where you feel like the truck is doing the least work, you know power over distance.
