Wester's Q?

Recommended Posts

I am seriously thinking about installing Westers on my truck. I had Hypertech on my 04 and was not impressed other than the rev limiter and shift points. However, I was able to put it back to stock when I took it to the dealer for different issues. How do you deal with that issue (putting it back to stock) when you have a Westers custom PCM when taking the vehicle to the dealer for whatever reasons? so your warranty doesn't get voided-- thanks

Search the forum - the general opinion is that the tech's won't be able to tell the difference b/t a stock PCM and the Westers PCM. Now bear in mind if they decide to flash your PCM in the attempt to fix the issue (yep, software fixes all hardware issues - or at least that's what engineers believe) then you lose the tune.

I've got a Westers with 40k+ on my extended warranty to go.

You can always ship your tuned PCM to westers and they will ship you back a stock pcm. After the warranty work is done you can have them ship your tuned pcm back. All you have to do is pay for shipping. I got mine ordered yesterday, should be here next week.

If you look on the web, you can find replacement cores for under $200. I kept my original cpu and the two times I've been in, I pooped my stock cpu back in.

It takes less than 5 minutes, and they can flash all they want.

Wester's will send you a new tune for free, but there's the hassle of time, mailing, shipping charges, etc.

Play safe and keep a spare.

The dealer "flashed" my westers when I had it in for it's final warranty service on my old truck.

That worked out Ok though, because I wanted a few changes to my custom tune, so I just called Lyndon, and he set me up with another PCM for $45 plus return shipping of the "reflashed" old core...

Thanks MrQuad. So I guess it would not be too bad of an idea just to eat the core charge and keep the stock pcm. What part of the pcm is replaced? the entire box under the hood or what?? any pictures? thanks

Glock, definetely find you a core on the net. Wester's charges $300 for a core, I KNOW they can be had for under $200 with a little effort.

Yes, it's the entire cpu, located behind the driver's headlight. Once you've done it, you can swap cpu's in under 5 minutes.

I have pics at home. I'll POP them up tonight.

POP.

POP.

Not poop.

???? I can't find my pics ???? WTF ????

I'll find them.... tomorrow :fume:!!!!

Look behind the driver's headlight, under the black plastic cover. The cpu snaps in and out, the only tool needed is a 7mm nutdriver for the wiring harness connectors.
