Recall for turnsignal problem?

Yesterday I heard on the radio that GM is recalling some SUV's and trucks because sometimes the turnsignal activates all 4 corners rather than just the intended side. I did not hear which models were included in that report but on another report I did hear that it was mostly the midsize suv's not trucks. My question is my 2003 silverado has this problem and I'm wondering if it is or is not included in this recall and perhaps what is the problem? Can I fix this easily myself? Currently I'm having problems with the trailer light output and I think it might be related to this turn signal problem and I need to get it fixed asap. I'm willing to do some digging myself if I know what I can look for to fix.

Thanks for any info.

We have recalls out the wazoo... I can't keep up with the details on all of them.

From what I remember hearing in the last few days, they're going to be recalling the Trailblazer for a hazard/turn signal problem caused by the flasher assembly. I don't know the details, but it's definitely not the same as a Silverado system.

You say you have the same problem, but at the same time say you're currently having problems with trailer lighting. So... which is it? What exactly is the problem. Be specific.

Sounds to me like you got some wiring problems, hehe. seriuosly if it was an old truck I'd sugest checking the wires for adbrasions and loose ground wires. but I'd guess that'd be a nightmare on a 2003 and it could be a bad switch somewheres leting power bleed out to places it isn't supposed to go.

I never should have mentioned the trailer lighting it just got you confused. I've been having the problem with the truck for about a year. Sometimes when you go to signal a left turn I get all 4 corners flashing like the hazzards. (sounds just like the recall I heard about) It's usually after a right hand turn. I've checked all lights for problems and I find none. I am having trouble with the output to the trailer lights as well but this is just recent as far as I know and I am just wondering if it is some result of the turn signal problem that I know the truck has. Maybe a short or something that is causing both problems.

That sounds like it could be a possiblility. Aside from the known turn signal problem, I picked up a tester to see that my truck was putting out the right signal to the trailer lights. And I'm getting a faint power output to both turnsignals all the time from the truck. Could be a power bleed. I've got one more night to dig under the truck and see what I can come up with. So far all wires and connections look good. I'm going to go over them again. Maybe I should replace the flasher unit in the truck? anyone know how much this part would be from a dealer and how hard to swap out?

Whatever happened here? Is there a recall on this that would affect '99 Suburban? I am having what seems like very much the same issue; just posted to GM technician

No recalls like this for the full size trucks. The Trailblazer recall is for the flasher module, which is not anything like on the full size trucks.

Did you add wiring for the trailer lights? If not you have a bad connection somewhere that is letting signal enter the wrong circuit. Perhaps you could remove 1 bulb at a time when the problem is present to see if you can isolate it to 1 area?

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
