4 headlight system question.

Surely this question has been asked before...but for the life of me, I can't find it in the search function...

What is the mod to make all four lights come on in high mode? Is the wiring heavy enough to handle the draw???

Is there any writeups on the procedure?

thanks in advance.

oh yeah...

Get a diode at Radio shack or somewhere and install it in the under hood fuse center as shown in the pic. Solder or crimp thin wire on both end of the diode then remove the two relays and insert the thin wires in the terminal holes and re-insert the relays. Be sure to tape up the bare wire or use a piece of shrink tubing. Use a thin wire so it doesn't damage the relay socket terminals. you can use a 1N4001 through a 1N4006 diode (about 50 cents). Make sure the band on the diode is toward the proper relay as show in the pic.

forgot to mention that this mod does not add any extra current to the stock wiring. This mod just activates both high and low relays at the same time when the high beems are on.

I wouldn't waste my time on this. Yeah it looks cool, but if you do any driving with your highbeams for an extended period of time, you'll notice that it is much easier to see farther down the road with just the high beams. On the 4 light systems of yore the low beams also had a high beam filliment that shut the low beam filliment off and the high beam would then be focused farther down the road.

When you have your low beams on, you illuminate the road close up to the front of your vehicle. With the highs and lows on at the same time your vision will be concentrating close up rather than farther down the road. This could be a hazard especially when you are driving fast.

Just my $0.02.

I just bought the diode today at a wholesale supplier. 10/$1.60 Can. I couldn't get just one but who cares.

On the 03 up Silvys I think its a must cause the headlights are way to shadowy on high beam.

Can you do this on a 00 silverado? my fuse box is set up differantly then the one posted.

That method will only work on the 03's and up.

You will need to do it with a common 12 volt relay and some wiring.

Mount a relay somewhere near you headlights and then wire it as follows:

relay terminal no. 30 - wire to a constant 12 volt positive source (battery or junction block) You should install a fuse on this wire.

relay terminal 87 - wire to and splice into your low beam headlight positive wire (you only need to splice into one of them)

relay terminal no. 85 - wire to a good ground

relay ternimal no. 85 - wire to and splice into a positive high beam headlight wire (again, one side will work)

the wires for 30 and 87 should be a heavier gauge like 12 gauge. the other two can be 16 or 18.

You can reverse 85 and 86, the coil inside the relay is not polarity sensitive, you can even reverse 30 and 87

I have two extra GM relays and the diode already done. The relay P/N is from an 05 truck. This way if you need to go to the dealer just replace the connected relays with your orignal relays (no warranty problems). If anyone is interested in buying them already done.

I was fortunate enough to get the system from R&D Truck Accessories, before they went out of business. I love the 4 hi-beams! Lights up the road as far as you can see. . .and everything above and below.

I just did this mod today, and it works great.  Thanks for the tip, fellas!

Does anyone see a problem with this method of hooking up the six light high beam mod?? I hooked it up this way today and it seems to work really slick. With low beams I get low beams + fogs. With high beams I get high + low + fogs. Plus, my fogs continue to act as normal using the button (can't be turned off if the head lights are on BUT they can be used independently of the head lights.

I'd really rather not burn my truck up, so if someone could look at this I'd appreciate it. I used 22 gauge solid wire to make the connections, this should be enough, right?

The 22 is fine, it is only turning the relay on. Just a question of whether or not the wiriing for the high/low/fog is independant or not.
