04 Suburban "Honking" sound while braking

Recommended Posts

So my 2004 Suburban makes this strange low "honk" sound when I brake. I can't really make it last longer than a second (unlike brake squeaks and shimmys). I can definitely feel it through the pedal. To some extent I can minimize the noise by varying the pdel pressure.

It doesn't happen at every stop. But it happens enough to get on my nerves at 14,000 miles on the truck and original pads/rotors. :chevy:

I've heard the slip yoke chirp before on another guy's truck, so know what that sounds like. This sounds much lower than that. This calls for trip to the dealer to check out - just wondering if you had heard of this before. :seeya:

I'd look at the vacuum power brake booster.

I got your number brother. I too have a 04 burb, mine also did the same exact thing with about 4000 miles on it. It drove me crazy and sounded bad but went away after a while. It was to strange to bring to anyone to look at since I could never make it do it on command. It never came back and I jacked it and crawled under it and looked realy hard to no avail. just hang in there .

Hmmm.....that actually makes some sense. There is a recall in progress for the brake booster anyway, right? Still haven't got my notice in the mail from GM yet. :seeya:

Yeh Im still waiting for my recall too. I called GM and had them run my VIN and it came up, but when the Dealer was called they ssaid they would not repair it until they recieve it from factory. Wow So if my brakes go out and I crash you wont care since it was not officially due. This brake booster thing seems pretty to me. Parts exploding, fluid leaking. Let me know if you get your recall. I wonder if anyone else had that recall done yet ?
