Range and DIC

Don't know if this has been discussed but I've noticed in my wifes 03 Tahoe if the fuel light comes on and the DIC display says your travel range is low you had better get her to some fuel QUICK! Seems there is not much "reserve" in the tank. It's kind of a pain in the A@# when traveling and you are between gas stations. Could there be something wrong with her Tahoe (other than she's very thirsty) or are others getting the same experience?

Mine's a retard and leaves me 6 gallons to travel on when the light comes on, most I've ever put in my 26 gallon tank is 22 gallons w/ the low fuel lit and 400 miles on the odometer.

I've been able to pull in almost immedialtey after the low fuel light came on a few times. Each time I am able to CRAM 22 gallons of fuel in. That seems about right. I don't have a DIC now but on my Exploder the computer gave me 50 miles to fuel or walk. I'm getting about 16-17mpg now so I'm about in the same range. I'm OK with that.

Deerhunter, I understand that, but my wife is not the best at filling up even around town. I gave up on using her Tahoe because every time I got in it I had to put gas in it! Isn't everyones wife like that??? Gauges for everything just about and she doesn't pay attention til a light comes on. :chevy: I had the light come on a few times during long road trips and even ran out of gas once  Good thing I could still call 1800CHEVUSA for some gas but it was a pain in the a@#. So any time the light comes on we head to the nearest station ASAP! Haven't done a long road trip lately but next time we'll be filling up around half! Not complaining about gas prices but how there is not much "reserve" when I do run it low and the light comes on. She's empty when that happens, I pump in 24-25 gallons when it does happen. I still love her though :P

On my 2000 Silverado, I can run about 35-40 miles when the light comes on and be fine, but on my 2004 Suburban, the light came on Sunday and the DIC showed 35 miles to go. Funny thing is, the guage was just a tad BELOW the empty line! After church, I started it again and it was just a tad ABOVE the empty line. I went for gas right after and decided then that I probly won't trust the guage very much. If I were parked on a hill or incline, I could see the difference, but level is level. From now on, when I get to between 1/4 and 1/2, I will start to look for gas.
