Customers have been seeing about 24-34hp from the 5.3 28-50hp from the 6.0 and 25-55 horsepower from the 8.1 motor. Fine tuning for other mods will sometimes make more of a different than just running those with the stock programming.

Are these tunes for the 5.3 also availible for the h.o. model that is all aluminum?And you said something about a core charge, what happens when i need to throw something in there if i have to go to the dealer they will prob not like seeing a custum pcm in it and would decline warranty work. So can it be done without sending back my org. pcm, and most important what do these tunes cost?

Hey, gang, Wester's charges a premium for cores, but cores are available online.

Personally, I recommend keeping your stock ecm for one simple reason-

It takes less than 5 minutes to swap out an ecm. When you go to the dealer for whatever reason, pop in the stock ecm, just in case they flash it and lose your tune. Then they can flash away and when you get home, pop the good tune back in

Otherwise, if you lose your tune, Wester's will burn you a new one for free, but you will have to cover shipping, PLUS the drag of having to drive on a stock tune until the new tune comes in...

Cores are available for under $200 for 05's (that is, when you can find one !!), and even less for older models.

Do they offer these programs for the 4.8 as well?

What kind of power gains are offered for this motor? I would assume slightly less than the 5.3L.

Also. How is mileage affected? I always run 89 octane in my 03 Sierra (4.8L) and sometimes go down to 87 depending on prices (right now, we are at 2.09 for 87). Will mileage go down when a tune is applied and all that power is added?
