Avalanche on vacation

Just got back from Gulf Shores, AL. 1436 miles total driven, 1300 on interstate avg about 80 mph. With 4 people, all our luggage and golf equipment, I got 15.4 mpg. That is the same I was getting around town for the first 900 miles while I broke it in. I thought that was acceptable as we had a pretty good load, and thru most of Alabama I was going 85-90 miles an hour, (do it or get run over!). Great ride, handling, and plenty of room for everybody. The only problem I had was that the hood popped open at 85 miles an hour. Scared the hell out of me. I think I might have hit the release with my foot because I had driven 400 miles since it had been opened. I hope it's not related to the GM bug deflector I put on before we left.

Forgot to mention a small problem with Onstar. My idiot friend screamed a cuss phrase into it as I was dialing and it replied, Voice recognition is off. WHAT A MORON! Couldn't get to work right after that. Just beeps at me. Now that I'm home I'll read the manual and go out and mess with it.

Glad you had a good trip!!!   15.4 mpgs with something as big as an Avalanche traveling at speeds like that is AWSOME mpg's.  I know you'd have picked up 3 mpg's easily if you'd back it down a notch or two.

My hood popped open (to the safety catch) on my '00 Silverado once about 500 miles after I had the oil changed at the dealer.  It must not have been closed all the way...  still it does scare the he11 out of you!!!

:D

Looking forward to taking ours to the beach.  We got out of our 4th straight German car in favor of the Avalanche.  We are quite impressed with the value (could use a better sound system with steering wheel controls, and HUD), the ride, quiteness and fit.
