Why not Z71SS?

Recommended Posts

Now, forgive me if this has been brought up before. Why doesn't GM offer some sort of Z71 SS? Why can't I get the 345hp 6L with my 4X4 maybe it could be offerred with a stock couple inch lift, etc, etc. In order to get a higher performance engine stock we've had to settle for Denali or SS (AWD is NOT 4wd)

I know I could get an 8.1 in an HD, but how about a performance 4x4!

For '06 you can get the "LQ9" 345 horse 6 liter in the 1/2 ton ext-cab short-bed or 1/2 ton crew-cab 4x4,Its the "VortecMax" pkg. RPO Code "NHT"

You can't get the Z71 suspension with it though because it comes with the Ride-Control Suspension-RPO Code "ZX3",Along with 4.10's and a locking rear diff. and an M70 "Heavy-Duty" Auto.trans. with aux.trans.oil cooler and aux.engine oil cooler.

SS is associated with street performance, not offroad. I do agree the 6.0 should be in 1/2 tons, without AWD.

I also think Chevy has watered down the SS badge to the point of it meaning nothing anymore. The current SS truck is a POS and disgrace to the badging. The SS Trailblazer is getting the LS2, and is going the right way. An SS truck is 2WD, regular cab, stick with an engine that can't be found in any other 1/2 ton option. A reall SS truck would be a LS2 with a 6-speed, 2WD and locking rear.

Performance and 4x4 are two things that have never really gone together.  As it is I personally think that an SS extended cab pickup is retarded.

For you guys that don't have kids, a regular cab is cool, I had an SS 454. But now I've got kids, files and stuff for work. A crew cab truck is a godsend. I know it isn't really sporty as in a rcsb way, but it's d**n useful. I would like to get some real power that the LS2 offers in a crew cab.

An ecsb SS is compromise between the rc and cc, but come on, offer the SS package across the line. The resrtictions GM is putting on engine combinations is really stupid. Why can you only get the aluminum 5.3 in a 4x4 and not in any other configuration?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, GM's marketing program is stupid! With my high school education and being a construction superintendent for a living; I could do a much better job than all these college educated morons do.

Performance sells, the Buick Grand Nationals of the 80's were never on the lots for long. Dodge SRT-10's don't last on lots near me. You know the Corvette Z06 will be a hot item.

Hello? GM wake up! The trucks and SUV's are keeping the corporation alive. Invest in performance for the truck and SUV line! There is no car other than the Corvette that GM makes that is not an ugly looking POS. Bring back the Quadrasteer and offer it in base models, longbeds, and with the Duramax. PULL YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ARSES! The writing is on the wall!

Funny I thought that V6 and fullsize pick-up are two things that have never really gone together.

As well, how much performance is lost when you add the back seat?

The extended cab adds weight and lessen handling. I do agree 4x4 and power go hand and hand, especially low end power. Didn't mean to sound like I was jumping at ya, just saying how I felt about the truck.

The 6.0 is the largest small block GM currently has. Half tons have always offered the largest small blocks. I just don't get why it is not in them at current, or why all the 6.0's are not the 345 HP variety in the Denails and SS Silverado.
