Does anyone have any pictures of a stereo in a NBS Yukon, I might be making the trade from my truck to a yukon.....and will be swapping the stereo over. I'm looking for ideas on where to place the amps and other components.....

Thanks :chevy:

I have a TNR NAV and an Alpine H/U. The Alpine is mounted is the lower console where the "cubby" was. That is also where the external 6-disk changer went in models that had it. Check out my stored pictures here. My amps are under the rear captians chairs, along with my XM receiver and iPod interface. I have a custom sub box fitted between the rear captains, downfiring. It pretty unnoticable.

Hope it helps.

Sounds like a real nice setup, I didn't find one with the captain's chairs....so I have the regular bench seat in the middle and no third seat.

I am entertaining the idea of mounting the amps, xm, etc inside the rear panels. I think there will be plenty of room inside there to mount everything.

what kind of setup do you have. How are you able to run the TNR NAV with your after market alpine headunit????

I just installed my alpine9855 and ran new speakers with new speaker wires from my own aftermarket amp. I used PAC's audios OS2 to bypass bose and keep onstar.

What did you do to run the NAV and keep your alpine???

When I bought the truck it wasn't long before I pulled out the Bose H/U and went with my Alpine. I replaced all the door speakers with MB Quart components. I left the 3" speakers in the rear pillars, the tweeters in the front pillars, and the console sub since they were not in my way. I also left the Bose amps under the console. I built a custom sub box that lies between my rear captain chairs and located my amps under the rear captain chairs. Originally my Alpine head was put into the dash at the "stock" locations using a Metra adapter. (Truth is I started out with a Sony system but switched to Alpine when I added the XM and iPod.

When I both the NAV unit I moved the Alpine down to the console where most 6 disc changers are located. Plugging the NAV into the original wiring harness was a breeze. That powered up the Bose amps and gave me sound through the speakers I didn't remove. All things considered, even with only a few small speakers, it sounds as good as a stock non-Bose system. The NAV voice is clear and sounds like it comes out of the front pillars speakers only.

Getting the Alpine back up and running required me to cut-and-splice my serial power adapter into the stock harness (remember before it just plugged in instead of the head unit). A little time consuming but certainly not brain surgery. That gave me my "ignition on" power for the Alpine. I tore open the adapter an ripped out the chime speaker since it was no longer necessary (the NAV gave me my stock chimes back) and it was VERY load for some reason.

The only issue left was the radio antenna. Hmmmm. One antenna, two head units. Think,,,,,,,the stock Bose sound REALLY sucks now compared to my Alpine,,, I have XM - what do I care,,,,,I put it on the Alpine. I think I'm going to move it back up to the Bose some day just in case I blow my Alpine up. I'd at least not have to sing to myself until I got it fixed.

BlackonBlack - I'm thinking you'll find it very difficult to put the electronics in the side panels. The passenger side has the rear A/C unit already and there is little to no air flow inside those panels. The amps might still fit under the rear seats (I've never checked it out) and the sub may have to be a JL Audio in the console or a custom box behind your rear seats.

I was originally just thinking of putting the amps and xm receiver in the rear side panels....I had not looked around back there just yet. guess you just saved me some time! :D Since I will have to be buying/building a new box, maybe I will just mount everything to the back side of the speaker box....I have three 200w amps and an amp for the sub instead of just two amps like most people have. I already had two amps in a previous car(one for the sub and the other for the front speakers), and just added two more amps since I had plenty of room to mount everything in the truck. Maybe I could build a fake floor and mount the amps on the underside of that, I've seen the guys on corvetteforum do this....that would allow plenty of air flow to keep the amps cool. Sounds like I've got a lot of thinking and planning to do before I tackle this install!

I am sure there are a million different ways to install everything, just need to get a game plan and get busy!

How would a JL audio sub sound in the console compared to a custom box behind the rear seats?

    • I tried tapping it.  This might sound like a dumb question, you should feel vibration or some type of noise when it turns on? Can someone please verify? Thank you all!
    • I feel better now for my own view point and actions or lack there of towards the dealership service theme reading your post and others. GM corporate is who offers the two free oil changes on the HD trucks and I bought my truck in Feb of 2025 and those oil change offers run out within 2 years I believe and I highly doubt I will be using either one of them. I had asked if I could officially give those free services to another customer ( a friend ) and they said no, its all a GM corporate thing based on the vehicle in question. What that service advisor did however was go into a little story about how such and such customer was denied engine warranty because he had done his own oil changes because then they are not documented ... you see where that goes and so an employee playing the game of scaring the customer into having the service work done there most certainly triggered my thought process. At a later date I did talk to the person who handles warranty claims at the dealership and she said to be sure to document the oil changes and keep receipts for the oil and filter ( coped the receipts from cases of Mobil oil and case of filters I bought from them ) and the vehicles VIN, the date of service, mileage etc and staple that together as a record I would give them if that was ever needed and I keep my own log book for services for each vehicle as well. Oh and about 8 months after I bought the truck the dealer starts calling me to offer a maintenance service since they haven't seen my vehicle show up on their system ... for the mere fee of 300.00 Canadian to change the oil and rotate the tires and a few other minor checks and I declined the offer, I get the call again a couple of months later for the same thing and she could tell I was not interested and she asked if they should take my name off the call list and I said yes, do that !.    By the way did you happen to keep your factory oil filter to open it up and see the surprises inside as I expect some will show up as per the odd little sliver of metal shaving and particles that the filter does trap along with bits of grey silicone sealer that come off of the inside edge of mating surfaces. I have cut open every filter so far on my truck although few miles but have changed the oil often and the second filter was vastly better with very little of anything, that first filter was the unsettling one as I expected it would be.
    • I get why they do this…but man…not ideal. I only extract on inboard boat engines because the drains are buried and even then I hate it because it’s easy to leave a quart behind with that method.   They should market it as an “oil refresh” not oil change!
    • I only get oil changed where I can watch. Valvoline pulls through the dipstick into a see thru glass. When done they show me the dipstick. About the only way they can mess up is using the wrong oil. But that secret wouldn’t stay secret long. Honda uses TQ wrenches on everything. You can watch through a plate glass window. Discount tires does that with tires. Trust but verify.
    • I would not argue that with you. It would be pointless to argue against the truth and you speak the truth.    My question and in fact the entire point of this thread is an exploration into the levers of wear which happens no matter how well we maintain our powertrains.    Some of these levers we exert a good deal of influence over which can and do result is lower wear, longer powertrain life. Some others we are sort of stuck with.    An engine is typically done when the ring to bore seal no longer is able to do the job effectively. Normally the first thing to go in a engine otherwise well maintained and adult driven is this seal.    Looking into the means, methods, products and attitudes that influence the rate of wear seems a worthwhile inquiry to me.
