Engine misses during acceleration

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I just put in new spark plugs and a new open-air cleaner setup.  Ran good for a day or two.  Then all of the sudden the engine will miss and stumble during an acceleration.  I checked to make sure all of the spark plug gaps and wires were ok.  All of the wires are on good and tight as well.  Any suggestions as to what is causing this would be greatly appreciated.

My '91 had a problem like that once, and I replaced the rotor and distributor cap along with the plugs and wires, and it worked fine.

You may want to try the cap and rotor as well.  I belive it was only arounf $10.00 for both at the time.

Does it act like just a cylinder or two is missing, or does it act like the whole engine cuts out?  I'd try the cap first, and if that doesn't work you could also try replacing the coil.  This summer I borrowed my dads 94 C1500 and it starting missing ever once in awhile, and then it got to the point that when it missed the engine would almost die.  I replace plug wire, cap, and finally the coil, which solved the problem.

Thanks for the advice guys

Hey Kansas Kid, it only seems like a cylinder or two is missing.  For the past couple of weeks it seemed like it would miss every now and then.  Once the engine warmed up, it seemed to go away.  But it got really bad tonight for some strange reason.  Maybe it doesn't like the AC Delco plugs I put in???  I think I will buy a rotor, cap and new wires tomorrow just to be on the safe side.  And if that doesn't solve it, I'll buy an new coil.  I am also seriously thinking about purchasing a MSD Off-Road ignition system.  I heard they are pretty slick, however I don't have the funds for one right now.  Boy, the stuff I could do if I only won the lottery:D
