Anybody disabled their foo-foo lights?

I used to have a 2002 GMC Z71 with power locks. The power lock switch (or the remote) just locked the doors and turned on the dome light. Ok, cool, I see the value in that.

But on my 2005 Silverado, some GM engineer decided to "improve" that. Now when I lock the doors when it's dark, I get the DRL's and backup lights. This happens regardless of whether I use the power door lock switch, or the remote.

This new "improvement" is idiotic. It sends a flood of light--waay too bright--outward from the front and the back of the truck, but leaves those steps between the door and the front or back of the truck even more treacherous, because the distant bright light blinds me to the still unlit area around the door, where I am!

I just want to lock the doors. I don't need some idiot shining a bright light in my face. Is there a way to rescind this ill advised monument to some foo-foo engineer's errant sensibilities? It's so stupid it's embarassing!

You take creative writing? That's a very well-worded post. I would assume there has to be a relay or fuse somewhere that's controlling that crap. Have you tried searching the forums? I'm sure somebody's discussed the same thing before.

I searched for +disabled +lights. Only about 6 hits, none were for this. That search engine is almost as busted as the garage. Takes about 10 tries to get it to work.

Does your truck have the DIC? If so, I'm pretty sure this is a customizable function, in which case it could just be turned off.

...Something like:

LOCK FEEDBACK ---> HORN ---> LIGHTS ---> BOTH

...it's nice to read a well-worded post--although I'm sure black1500 meant his comment as a compliment also.

Anyways, I hope this helps. If you don't have a DIC, then I don't know how to help you.

Good luck :fume:

Yea...the DIC has all the information but if you dont have that, then I believe you can overide it like in the older ones. Check the manual...Maybe...

Ok, I'll check tomorrow and report back on whether it offered a solution. Thanks to all who replied!

Oops. Should have put something like:

LOCK FEEDBACK ---> NONE ---> HORN ---> LIGHTS ---> BOTH

...seems like I would've remembered to include the 'NONE' option, since that's what you're probably going to want to select.
