2004 Tahoe LS 4.8L 4WD

I am following my Owners Manual and going real easy on the motor and hear varying opinions regarding fluctuating speed, top speed limits, oil changes etc for the first 500 miles.

 

My plan was to go easy as suggested, change oil within the first 500-1000 miles, reset the Oil Life System and then let the OLS tell me when the next change should be.

 

1. Do you advocate going easy on a new motor and not simply running it up to 70-75 right away ?

 

2. Do you advocate changing oil out during the first 500-1000 or so miles to get any shavings etc out ?

 

3. Since I do not have the DIC controls on the steering wheel is there a way to determine "remaining life on oil" ??

Follow the owner manual recommendations. Basically, drive it normally, but I wouldn't pull a brand new vehicle out of the dealership and head 'cross country at a constant 80 mph.

 

As for changing the oil at 500 or so miles. It's not necessary. If you feel better doing it, it won't hurt.

 

I don't know how would get remaining oil life percentage without the DIC controls. Never tried myself, but I doubt it can be done.
