Wester tune

If I get a Wester's tune, I was wondering about a few issues. For one, If i get bigger tires and want to change shift points after the tune can i use a hypertech? Would it screw up the Wester's tune? I have never heard that addressed before. thanks

Wow, that's a good question mr 40cal. I would think that a Hypertech would apply a setting over the PCM, as it was designed to. I doubt you'd screw up the Westers tune. If you had the Hypertech programmer you can try it but if you don't own one and you were going to purchase one just to do this change, I'd argue that you should send it back to Westers to have them program it in there for you.

Step one: Call Lyndon at Westers and ask him. He knows his stuff.

Actually, if you're careful, I'm 99% certain you can use a hypertech or superchips handheld to adjust a few things, but if you're not careful, you'll also erase your Wester tune.

If you want to go this route, touch base with Lyndon and bounce it off him. I haven't done it myself, so can't speak firsthand, but the question has come up before.

Yes you can use the Hypertech. If you only use it for shift points or tire size it will be fine and have no effect on the Wester's tune. If you change the shift firmness it could become way too firm and you could break the tranny. If you do any of the Hypertech "performance" tunes, you will overwrite Wester's tuning and lose power not gain it!

Or, if you live close to Butch, just pop in and have an update uploaded to your truck...makes it real easy, takes about 10 minutes or less. I am due for one in about a week or two, whenever I find time to get over to him. I am also adding an Outlaw intake and one of those cool Aeroforce guages...anyway, that is another option, go to an upload dealer. Later,

Theoretically, it shouldn't touch the wester's tuned because the hypertech wouldn't be re-mapping any fuel maps. But, if the hypertech does re-write the stock code just for s**ts and giggles but doesnt modify it then you are screwed. I would call Westers. But, honestly, I would just send it back. When I sent mine back to get it adjusted for 35's and 4:56 gears, it was dead on.
