Arizona A/C

Alright, I guess you would call this more of a rant then a question. My Dad lives in phoenix, and over the winter has gotten all of his techs to convert from super duty Ford's over to HD's. This summer, they are all hating them. Th a/c stops working when the vehicle gets warm. Come on GM... if your proving grounds are out in the local Az deserts.. How do you not realize this is a problem? Does anybody know of any fix's GM has for this?

That is strange. My Dad's 02 HD will freeze you to death in the hot summer, and that is in TX, the South Utah Desert, or Vegas. Maybe it is an issue with those new electric fans???

I live in Phoenix and so far (3 weeks worth of ownership) my 2500HD practically freezes me out of the cab!!!!!

The HD's don't yet have electric fans, only the 1/2 tons.

Yeah, I am assuming the Duramax would not have the same temperature issues! I hear the gas motors are having a few overheat problems, My boss used to be a chevy service manager before coming to our nissan store, and his brother is their parts manager.

Have them check if they have an updated fan, especially with trucks that have a snowplow package. I had mine changed and it made a big difference..

I was in Phoenix last week. Yep, they got heat pretty well perfected down there. We saw it get up to 113 a couple days. That's killer hot, and it's supposed to get even hotter next week. Thank God I won't be there to enjoy it...

I rented a Grand Prix (white of course!) and it didn't exactly freeze us out, but it did okay.

I agree with the fan. You need to move a lot more air when the air is that hot out. Also, make sure there aren't a lot of bugs or other crud in the condensor out front. There shouldn't be if the trucks are fairly new, but it's probably worth checking.

The A/C in 05 D-Max works great, and most of my driving is around Las Vegas. In fact I thought it cooled better than a lot of vehicles I've been in.

I totally agree. Mine easily has the best AC of any vehicle I've ever owned (and I've owned A LOT of vehicles!) It far, far exceeds my wife's Jeep Liberty, as well as my father-in-law's 02 Dodge Ram Cummins (which takes forever too cool down and doesn't blow very hard when it does).

The AC in my 03 2500HD Sierra with the DMax works pretty well too. We also have an 05 Jeep Liberty that seems to work good too tho. This is one of the reasons when I changed the fuel filter in my truck I did not want to bend the AC line, but removed the passenger side battery instead.

A couple weeks ago it was 106 degrees up here. I was towing home from the track. I was about frozen out of the cab, A/C worked wicked good. When I got stuck in traffic, I could hear the fan working like hell when I was accelerating from about 30 MPH.

118° here today in Surprise, AZ. The air conditioning worked perfectly on my '05 2500HD Duramax - nice & cool.

And yet knowbody in extreme heat with the gas motor? You all have diesel motors, that makes a huge difference.

I've had gasser HDs for the last 5 years in Central Texas. We get a little heat here. No issues with A/C performance in traffic or otherwise, other than the little pressure sensor on the accumulator going bad on my last one.

I'm not sure what to say.

My AC doesn't work that great. The 00' I had worked WAY better. This could all be related to the "high pitched squealing noise" that is in my AC system that I've addressed on here. Waiting for an answer from GM next week.

I recently took my truck to North Carolina, it was very hot the whole trip. Had to run the fan on 3 most of the time to be comfortable. Something isn't right.
